Ady
Ok call me mr scroodge - i hate xmas with a passion. No im not a missrable old man, but boy is it getting worse. bad signs of things to come when they have xmas adverts on TV in October!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF is all that about! My local Tesco started displaying xmas puddings and stuff way back at the end of August - Dont you think it takes the Urine? All it seems to be now is spoilt little kids: I want this, i NEED that, santa is bringing me a new mobile, and im only 6 years old! Also, people (men) seem to shope like they wont be able to shop again. This one man alst year had 3 - YES THREE - trollys, full to the brim of ale - was in stitches watching him trying to push them all at once. Also why do people bye so much food like were preparing for an ice age????? shops are conly closed over xmas day and boxing day - then they re-open!!!!!! I seen some one bying 9 loafs of bread last year and 24 pints of milk!!!!! Sorry for the rant - but I HATE it - I HATE it all Please refer to me as the 'Grinch' from now on

RobSheffield
SCROOGE! I like christmas from the point of view of the people i buy gifts for, i hope my mum, dad, brother and girlfriend like what i have got them, and im looking forward to seeing them open the presents I do agree that the whole commercialisation is annoying! T2 MSW
you have all those presents already. Ive not even thought about it yet! The one thing that really gets me is the 8 million sofa adverts!! Come by some crap that will only last you till next year, then you can do it all over again!
michael
The fact that you've started a Christmas related thread in October is fairly annoying too. I also dislike it, I try to go on holiday usually, this year I'm working - I suspect it's a decent time for people with large, close families though so I don't hold it against anyone who likes it. As for mass shopping - I tend to stock up in advance so I don't have to leave the house for a while and deal with the morons who think the Boxing day sale is something worth visiting. CJ
I enjoy Christmas. I love the lights, the atmosphere and everything else associated with it. Yes it is totally commercialised but what other time during the year comes close in terms of "feel good"? Of course, as both I and my children have gotten older the real sparkle might have waned somewhat but I still enjoy the overall experience. michael
CJ - does Kos close to tourists like other Greek islands seem to? I need new ideas for places to escape to
Supragal
I love it. I have 3 pressies already (for other people I mean!) I think August is too soon but October is fine, it's only what, 8 Saturdays away, so 8 chances for most people to get pressies. The last one doesn't count either that's way to last minute! CJ
CJ - does Kos close to tourists like other Greek islands seem to? I need new ideas for places to escape to Unfortunately for you, yes it does. Well, that isn't entirely true as the island still has approximately 25k residents but the problem is getting flights here. The charter flights end in October and the only way in is via a connecting flight from Athens. But as easy jet flies there daily, that really isn't that much of a chore eh? michael
Something to consider then, even Athens would be a start
T2 MSW
would that be a permanent thing?
michael
would that be a permanent thing? They still have the Internet, you wouldn't notice any difference.

CJ
Something to consider then, even Athens would be a start I think Kos would be cool as a Winter holiday base. The climate is still very good (warmer than our Spring) and there are still bars and restaurants open. There are daily flights to and from Athens too - and i know of a lovely apartment that is up for rent from the 14th December until the 30th!
