Steviekid
I've got a DVD that's got one really bad scratch on it. Is there any software that can do some sort of "recovery" of the disk so that I can burn a new one that doesn't mess up so badly in the middle? ivan
Some of the PC games shops can do disk recover and repair with a kit that fixes the surface. Try asking locally.

I saw that in a shop window the other day, well worth remembering.
madmunky
If the disk is an orginal just use some T-cut on it (dont try on backups), normally does the job for me just remember circle motions not strait lines.

hoff
Washing up liquid also should work. Is it porn though, you'll never get a scratch out if it is. Thats the way of the world:p

Guest gzaerojon
it depends on where the scratch is, the read side is on the label and the laser actually reads through the plastic cd onto the information on the underside of the label. i have brought a few knackered cds and dvds back to life but only if it's on the plastic side. to do this you will need some 2000 grit wet and dry paper, use it with a little water on the scratch but make sure you keep everything else dry otherwise it might start to lift the label off the cd. also keep it flat as you do it. once you have rubbed down the scratch you will need a tube of THIS to finnish off, it takes a bit of elbow grease but this stuff actually melts a small layer of the plastic and pollishes it back like new. good luck
