JustGav
Well after much umming and aahing, we have finally taken the plunge and got my eldest a kart... Went for the junior rotax class as she is only 13. She is dead keen about it, so it should be good fun. Bless her, she even came back from her friends house to see me unloading the kart from the trailer.. http://www.slipstreem.net/kart/kart1.jpg http://www.slipstreem.net/kart/kart3.jpg http://www.slipstreem.net/kart/kart4.jpg I guess it is only a matter of time before she asks to drive the supra now

edd_t
Oooh please, I'm new to all of this, so I'm having to rely heavily on advice. What class is your brother in? no probs. to tell the truth i dont know, hes been doing it for 3 years and i havnt had a chance to go watch him. hes 35 now and did it semi-pro for one season so its got to be a high class. edit: Rotax Max maybe??? http://www.karting.co.uk/Results/DisplayResults.asp?SID=HODDESDONKC&DID=20050807&RID=10&CLS=ROTAX%20MAX&DrvName=Kris%20Thorpe%20(SMAX) v. old results. he recently bought a CF race seat for his son (my nephew) which used to belong to Jenson Button just gotta get the nephew a kart now to go with it lol

I want to get him into it as soon as and where can i find out about where the tracks are ? I'm still learning all of this to be honest.... There is a few different types, TKM, Rotax etc.... The rotax junior class starts at 13 till 16 (or 17), and then it moves into a different class where you only need to change the motor to the next class. I believe this is the case, but I guess I'll learn as I go.. There is also a cadet class which is younger than 13, not sure how young though. The best bit is to find a kart club nearby and just hound them (worked for me), we are off tomorrow to have a gander.. I'll see if I can find some links

Soonto_HAS_soop
I've just bought a TKM Extreme with the 115cc engine and a clutched crank. Loads of people do it in AML so joining the group as it were. Any reason why you went for the Rotax engine? I've been told that they are a little more difficult to get setup. A good guy to talk to for parts etc is Marcus Allen in Edgehill/Ratley (Warwickshire) he races TKMs and his son works for Williams and races Radicals. Soonto_HAS_soop
Forgot to mention that Marcus Allen is the guy who makes Jade Karts for TKM karts and also "Dominators".

Rotax is a slightly more controlled class, ie the motor is sealed and you can't play with, regulations are a lot stricter as well.. So it would make the first season easier to handle. I did look at the TKMs but I figured they would be too much too soon for her. Also the bigger reason, there is a bigger following of Rotax at the local kart club. JustGav
Well, she had her first outing in the kart at practicing... Went well (Only one spin), still a little nervous I guessed. Figured it would only be right for me to have a go... DAMN they maybe restricted Junior Karts but they don't half bloody shift!!!! Even with slicks on it was sliding out in places... Got lapped UMPTEEN times, but damn good fun.
b_have
Hi Gav, don't suppose you know of anyone moving up from cadets with a comer kart/outfit for sale? Took my lad to forest edge on Saturday for a test day and he's hooked
