Audi or BMW??

Well finally decided to not be too silly and not get a toy but to get a better car for my daily use for work and play

Needs to be diesel, needs to be an estate for the dog but needs to be a bit more involved than my laguna LOL

Pretty much got it down to 2 types of cars

Audi A4 Avant 2.5 Quattro - 180 bhp or

BMW 330D Touring - 204 bhp

Now i know the bmw is more powerful but it also does less MPG than the audi and the bmw is alot smaller inside the boot area, then again i only have the dog to go in there, its not like i shift coffins

So unless theres anything ive missed on the market for around £15k ish then which ones the best one?? who has had one and can comment?

All advice appreciated as its going to be a major family purchase so needs to be right ;)

Mike

ps these pics are just for examples, but they are both around £15k and the right models

why does it need to be deseasel ?

diseasel usually costs more at the pump and the cars usually cost more to buy..... I think on average you have to own the diseasel version for 4 years to see any money return through the extra milage you get over the petrol version.

(depends on how many miles you do per year of course)

go for either a 2nd hand M3 or an S4 ;)

i do approx 30,000 miles a year and get 25ppm for the first 5000 miles then 15ppm thereafter so i dont want to be out of pocket, infact what i make now pays the extra on my huuge mortgage ;) so ideally wanted a car which still made me money but a little more exciting to own than a diesel laguna :p

You'd have to slant the figures badly to actually realise the above claim (I've heard it many times before), include purchase costs of the car, purchase copsts of the fuel & assume you could get the manufactorers figures for the petrol car. However using a more real world stance, like what a mpg a 330i could really acheive on day to day driving, lower insurance costs, longer service intervals and the petrols killer, resale value.

I've had three c330i (not diesels though)...

If you're going to keep up the BMW service record, have a serious look at their servicing costs (cheaper to run the Supra!)

Look at cost of other 'bits' too - I had the suspension collapse on one of mine.

Also managed to pull the door handle off (door handle was only £12, but cost another £120 to have it sprayed silver and fitted!)
