Halfords really, for there warranty...

Heavy ICE user? Optima Yellow Top.

Halfords are so overpriced on batteries. Optima yellow top as cool as it looks I'll never need a £200 battery really and they are a PITA to charge with any reasonable priced charger. FWIW I have a huge yellow top on my offroader but it means I have to run the engine for a couple of hours a week or buy a gel battery charger! Also FWIW the Optima red top is a better battery for most supra owners.

So now we have gotten into I can't afford an Optima what are my other options?

Well I bought my HCB005 in 2004, had it replaced in 2006 FOC and now it's on it's last leggs really (not bad 7yrs for the price of £55)so, going back to a Toyota one which, is a £24 saving over the price of the Halfords one these days and does come with a 3yr G-tee. I used the original part number of: T28800-YZZAE on my UK spec, from the one I bought in 2002 and it's still valid. £59 + VAT pickup on Saturday :)

I find this crowd very cheap especially for delivery to Ireland

I would recommend

For internal (eg. boot reloction)

* Optima Yellow top

* Odyssey Batteries

Odyssey Extreme (Light Weight) Min you need the ER30 model

http://www.tayna.co.uk/Odyssey-Extreme-Batteries-S1321-1.html

ODYSSEY-PC1500 -- Monster with 1500 crank amps!!!

http://www.tayna.co.uk/ODYSSEY-PC1500DT-1500-Cranking-Amps-P7671.html

Optima Yellow tops (4.2 range is what you would need)

Battery Charger

CTEK Multi XS4003; as used by Ferrari, Aston Martin, Mercedes

**Auto Express Product Awards 2010

Bought one 4 months ago, best charger I ever used. Full diagnostic function, smart idiot proof charger, get the polarities incorrectly setup and it will throw an error! Will charge anything from an AGM to an Acid Battery

well my toyota battery has lasted 10 months and is now shot 9.5 volts after 4 days think there be getting it back

Anyone got any new opinions on batteries? Was reading through this thread and considering the Toyota battery in post #112 until i saw the above.

Had a Yuasa and that's lasted approx 2 years, I sometimes don't start the car for 2-3 weeks so possibly an optima yellowtop if I can find it at a reasonable price?

How many people rave about the Halfords HCB005 now?

Prices :

Toyota Battery T28800-YZZJC £65 inc VAT 12v ?Ah CCA 620A

Halfords HCB005 £95 inc vat ?v 60Ah CCA 510A

Optima Yellowtop 3.7AGM - £138 inc VAT 12v 48Ah CCA 660A

TIA :)

Ok ta, can you verify for me which model? There's 2 x 4.2 Yellowtops, and also it fitted fine in the stock battery location? You haven't done a boot battery have you?

IIRC the only difference is where the terminals are located (at the front or at the rear of the battery).

Looks like you're right, front or centre, so am assuming it's this puppy

Having a look there it seems the U battery has the side terminals. You might need to extend your leads to get them to come over to the front of the battery unfortunately.

The U Optima Model had both side and top mounted terminals , the non- U Model has the conventional top mount terminals

I didn't explain my point very well. Yeah the difference with the U is that it has the side terminals as well, but unfortunately the cables will still need extended due to the yellow top 4.2 not being available in a reversed config.

thinking out loud but can you not just put the battery in the other way around , if the negative terminal is nearest the wing, do a 180 with the unit , negative terminal is furthest away from the wing

Maybe I am missing something; my battery is in the boot
