dangerous brain
Halfords really, for there warranty... Heavy ICE user? Optima Yellow Top. Halfords are so overpriced on batteries. Optima yellow top as cool as it looks I'll never need a £200 battery really and they are a PITA to charge with any reasonable priced charger. FWIW I have a huge yellow top on my offroader but it means I have to run the engine for a couple of hours a week or buy a gel battery charger! Also FWIW the Optima red top is a better battery for most supra owners. So now we have gotten into I can't afford an Optima what are my other options? Sharpie
Well I bought my HCB005 in 2004, had it replaced in 2006 FOC and now it's on it's last leggs really (not bad 7yrs for the price of £55)so, going back to a Toyota one which, is a £24 saving over the price of the Halfords one these days and does come with a 3yr G-tee. I used the original part number of: T28800-YZZAE on my UK spec, from the one I bought in 2002 and it's still valid. £59 + VAT pickup on Saturday

caseys
well my toyota battery has lasted 10 months and is now shot 9.5 volts after 4 days think there be getting it back Anyone got any new opinions on batteries? Was reading through this thread and considering the Toyota battery in post #112 until i saw the above. Had a Yuasa and that's lasted approx 2 years, I sometimes don't start the car for 2-3 weeks so possibly an optima yellowtop if I can find it at a reasonable price? How many people rave about the Halfords HCB005 now? Prices : Toyota Battery T28800-YZZJC £65 inc VAT 12v ?Ah CCA 620A Halfords HCB005 £95 inc vat ?v 60Ah CCA 510A Optima Yellowtop 3.7AGM - £138 inc VAT 12v 48Ah CCA 660A TIA
Scott
Yellow tops are very good batteries IMO, the red tops are rubbish (even although I have one).
johnny g
Yellow tops are very good batteries IMO, the red tops are rubbish (even although I have one). I can confirm the Yellow Top 4.2 is excellent. Holds charge well - and never "dims" lights on full ICE volume (3 amps, headunit, DSP, 2 subs, 6 speakers, TV, Freeview)

There's 2 x 4.2 Yellowtops, and also it fitted fine in the stock battery location? You haven't done a boot battery have you?

Looks like you're right, front or centre, so am assuming it's this puppy http://www.optimabatteryshop.co.uk/i-Optima-Yellow-Top-YT-U-4.2-8014-254-BCI-D3478-YTU4.2-AGM-I441.html

You might need to extend your leads to get them to come over to the front of the battery unfortunately.
Jellybean
The U Optima Model had both side and top mounted terminals , the non- U Model has the conventional top mount terminals
Scott
The U Optima Model had both side and top mounted terminals , the non- U Model has the conventional top mount terminals I didn't explain my point very well. Yeah the difference with the U is that it has the side terminals as well, but unfortunately the cables will still need extended due to the yellow top 4.2 not being available in a reversed config. AndrewOW
How do I stop my positive terminal from popping off?! It did it again today, and messed everything up.
