Whiteline Handling Kit

Copy of an email from Paul Booth about the Whiteline Handling Kit. I think he likes it :)

Just got my Supe back from Powerstation, complete with a nice new Whiteline "Handling Kit". This consists of replacement roll-bars front and rear; plastic roll-bar bushes and, most importantly, plastic replacement bushes for the front bottom suspension arms (replaces those horrible big spongy rubber doughnuts Toyota fit).

Putting aside the fact that I've been saying for a year that the roll-bars and bushes are wayyyyy more important than pissing around with the shocks and springs, I was not expecting the improvements in handling that I actually found. Bearing in mind I have still to do a few hundred aggressive miles and find the optimum settings (roll-bars are currently set on the 'middle' of their torque range and the total geometry is set to slightly positive steer, compared to Toyota's, and an extra degree of

castor), nevertheless, I just cannot believe the improvement in

cornering. I stuck it on a tight roundabout that it would normally have leaned in to (creating a light inner rear wheel and tending towards twitchy over-steer when you power out) and it sat flat as a pancake, only starting to drift ever so slightly as the 265 rubber started to lose grip. By that time I was feeling sick as dog from the lateral G anyway so was looking for an excuse to get off the roundabout. Handling on undulating roads with left-right-left-right-... road camber has improved a x1000.

The down-side we were anticipating was massively increased road noise through the plastic bushes but I cannot hear any significant road noise. I have no doubt if I was running 185x17 tyres and a stock exhaust I might hear a small increase but as I am on 265x18 rears and an HKS Super Drager, I can't hear any increase in tyre noise as it sits below the existing hum.

To say the kit exceeded my wildest expectations is an understatement. The only reason I can now think of for replacing my struts/springs is if I feel my spine is getting too easy a life and it's time I had a reason to visit my attractive Danish Osteopath.

Having used me as the Supra Guinea pig, Powerstation are so impressed with the tangible improvement, they're going to keep JZ80 parts as stock items.

Indeed I will.

My Whiteline springs have dropped 30mm since fitting, the car now sits about 60mm lower than stock. The front wheels rub the arches when cornering and hit the arch liners when the car hits a pothole or sharp dip in the road.

I am currently waiting on a new set of springs from Whiteline as the one's are either faulty or incorrect. Unfortunately they are out of stock and have quoted 2-3 weeks delivery

I will post the full details when the issue is resolved but needless too say I am very unhappy  ....in fact I'm bloody furious

Gav, is that another 2-3 weeks from now, 'cause you've been waiting about a month already haven't you?

I think some people got the Whiteline shocks and springs last year and were happy with them, so it's probably yours are just a duff set - maybee why they are out of stock?

Time will tell how Pauls bushes hold up.

It has taken some time to negotiate getting a new set of springs sent.

I don't really want to say anymore as I don't want prejudice any future actions.

Didn't have any problem with mine, but then my car didn't last that long after I put them on :( (About 8 weeks and a trackday at Bentwaters.)
