Scott
Hey guys, got my supra on Friday and i have been on the go since so i haven't been able to ask... I think the cat's are still in place and i want to get both de-cat's. How quickly should i look to do it as the car is running about 1.2 bar using a Mines ECU and i have read a few times on here that it can be a bit dangerous for the engine. Is Envy Performance the best place to get them from? What sort of time is involved in changing them over? I won't be doing it but its just so that i can budget the price of a garage. Cheers Scott =op
jamesmark
First things first get a full top to toe service on the car before you even attempt to go decat, regardless if the owner has said they done it before you bought it. Chris Wilson is very good with decats I personally would by from him. He is a member and trader on here drop him an email for a price. Before that though check that it has the cats in as 1.2 bar is a lot with cats still in place, as the stock cats are very restrictive, even with this ECU. Scott
Pretty sure they are still in buddy. The guy i bought it from thought they were done but when i looked down the engine bay i'm sure i spotted a Cat. I'll take some pics later on and post them up. Cheers for the info Scott =op
Scott
Ok, would i be right in saying that that is the main CAT pipe? Cant see the other one... where is the 2nd pipe? Is it halfway up the exhaust or something? Cheers Scott =op
jamesmark
Thats a cat, the second cat is attached to that one and has the same metal coating a looks flatish. Does your car have a boost guage? or did previous owner tell you it is boosting to 1.2bar. Although those are the cats, the cats may be gutted out, on my ex Supra the second cat was completely empty. Scott
Its got a boost gauge. Getting 0.7bar when the first turbo kicks in then 1.2bar when the second one kicks in. Is that right? Its nice when the 2nd one comes in at 4k, for that extra oomph, but by the time its hitting 5k its bloody mental lol. Scott =op
jamesmark
I dunno, to me it does not sound right as the cats are very restrictive. They maybe gutted or have you got a boost controller that is raising the boost up to 1.2bar?
Scott
Oh sorry, its got a mines ECU which i have heard automatically raises the boost to around 1.1. The boost gauge shows just below 1.2 so i'm guessing thats about right. No boost controller though, i'm opting for a De-Cat and a restrictor. What benefits/drawbacks are there from the 2nd de-cat? Will it still pass an MOT with the 2nd one in place? Thanks for the info. Scott =op
cheekymonkey
Do mines even do an ECU for the Supra
Scott
Well if they don't they do stickers for the ECU lol Scott =op
Scott
Oh, and that sticker gives the car over 1.1 bar of boost and raises the redline to just over 8k revs. Speaking of which, its so strange watching the rev counter go off the scale then blip back to 8k lol.
