Lotus Elise. What is your opinion?

Hi all.

My friends beautiful widebody s13 200sx was run over by a Honda crv last week and now his Insursance has written it off. So now he wants a Lotus Elise.

I know theyre around 130bhp and weigh about the same as a packet of crisps, but he honestly thinks it'll keep up with my friends stock TT supra?

I dont have a clue but i could do with some comments to shut him (Or me) up!

Thanks;)

Any of the Elise models will have a hard time keeping up with a standard TT in a straight line.

For comparison, I just checked the specs of the Toyota engined Elise S, 134bhp. In terms of acceleration, it's about the same as an old-shape Impreza Turbo.

To be honest though, that's not really the point of the Elise. If he wants it to out-accelerate other cars, then there's far better choices.

I'm on my second Elise now (had a modified S1 and now have a standard S2 111S), and in fact I sold my fantastic BPU Supra TT to fund the new one.

It's certainly true they aren't built to the high standards of the Supra, but they absolutely destroy it in terms of fun. I would advise anyone just to take one on a test drive and see what they are like.

I went to see this little beauty yesterday I have been going on about one for ages (just ask my misses!) It is one of 10 special editions that came in the subaru colours. I had a sit in it and it was roomier than I thought, just got to sort out a day I can get there to test drive it.

Looks very nice in that Subaru blue! I can't decide whether I like the gold wheels though.

Here's my Krypton Green S2:

James, what are the pros and cons with these cars. I take the issues of leaking roofs on the s1's is no longer.

That's a very wide-ranging question!

The roof on my S1 was pretty good. Provided it was lined up right, it just dripped a bit of water onto the sills and that was it. The S2 soft roof is much easier to fit and leaks even less. I did get wet though when I took it to a hand car-wash and the guy aimed the pressure washer at the window!
