Sparky
Hi all. My friends beautiful widebody s13 200sx was run over by a Honda crv last week and now his Insursance has written it off. So now he wants a Lotus Elise. I know theyre around 130bhp and weigh about the same as a packet of crisps, but he honestly thinks it'll keep up with my friends stock TT supra? I dont have a clue but i could do with some comments to shut him (Or me) up! Thanks;)
JamesG
Any of the Elise models will have a hard time keeping up with a standard TT in a straight line. For comparison, I just checked the specs of the Toyota engined Elise S, 134bhp. In terms of acceleration, it's about the same as an old-shape Impreza Turbo. To be honest though, that's not really the point of the Elise. If he wants it to out-accelerate other cars, then there's far better choices. Whitesupraboy2
I had a play with an elise in my old NA it was identical on straights, round the twisty's he would of destroyed me
kieren1234
Not too keen on them but no way they will accelerate as well as a TT, an N/A woulde be pretty evenly matched (speed wise).
Wez
Great cars and designed to go round corners very well. As mentioned flat out speed is not what they were designed for, although the E85 Supercharged Exige might be a little different
dini_the_owl
as said about an n/a performance on straight, i made one look silly not so long ago when he got up my ass on a local bypass, he tried it twice and lost both times, we pulled up at some traffic lights soon after and his head was buried in the footwell...... Charlie Fett
Not bad cars great performance but not reliable, the LOTUS name says it all - LOADS OF TROUBLE USUALLY SERIOUS!!!!
JamesG
I'm on my second Elise now (had a modified S1 and now have a standard S2 111S), and in fact I sold my fantastic BPU Supra TT to fund the new one. It's certainly true they aren't built to the high standards of the Supra, but they absolutely destroy it in terms of fun. I would advise anyone just to take one on a test drive and see what they are like.

Dave F
I went to see this little beauty yesterday I have been going on about one for ages (just ask my misses!) It is one of 10 special editions that came in the subaru colours. I had a sit in it and it was roomier than I thought, just got to sort out a day I can get there to test drive it. JustGav
Having driven the elise on a track, it is infinitely more throwable round the corners, and a LOT more forgiving when it gets wobbly. Remember it has a lot less weight than the supra as well...
Ian W
I considered spending a bit more when I bought my car to get an S1 Elise but decided I couldn't live with it as an every day car. Bought my ITR instead but I've always wondered how they'd fare against each other

Looks very nice in that Subaru blue! I can't decide whether I like the gold wheels though. Dave F
James, what are the pros and cons with these cars. I take the issues of leaking roofs on the s1's is no longer.
JamesG
James, what are the pros and cons with these cars. I take the issues of leaking roofs on the s1's is no longer. That's a very wide-ranging question! The roof on my S1 was pretty good. Provided it was lined up right, it just dripped a bit of water onto the sills and that was it. The S2 soft roof is much easier to fit and leaks even less. I did get wet though when I took it to a hand car-wash and the guy aimed the pressure washer at the window!
