Ps2 controller problem

Guys my PS2 game controller works fine for games like R-type etc, today I put some new games in and it wont respond - any ideas? (have tried 3 controllers now).

i had that problem with the getaway but when i put it in another console it worked fine.

do you have the old ps2 or the newer one?

old ps2 its a few years old.

 

Question - do all the PS1 Controllers have 'PS1' written on them? Reason I ask is I *may have an old PS1 controller which has worked on all previous games but a search on google suggests they dont work on all games ( two of my controllers are light grey and they say 'ps1' the other one which I am using is dark grey but doesnt say 'ps1' on it so I presumed it was a ps2 controller)

not sure about that mate. all the controllers i ever used worked fine inc old ps1 and new ps1.

cheers dude - gonna try a mates black controller to see if that is any better. Thought one of the techies may have been able to shed some light on it

the ps1 ones dont work on all games i belive, what i do know is on gran tursimo 4, when you use a ps2 controller you can vary the amount of throttle and brake you apply, put with a ps1 controller, its either full accerlerate or nothing......If you understand what im on about

if the black controller doesn't work it may be time to replace the laser arm in the console.

this was a common fault in the older ps2.

do you sometimes have trouble loading games or watching dvd's? if so its almost definately the laser arm
