Scoboblio
Ever since I bought my car I've noticed that the gas peddle has about half an inch of travel on it before you hit the point where it actually does something.... under the bonnet I can see that the throttle cable has a similar amount of slack (0.5 - 1 inch). Is this normal or should I check it out?
Steve Cargill
That is normal. I think it's to ensure that the throttle closes fully when you take your foot off. If there was no slack the springs may not be able to close if all the way.

merckx
Mine had loads of play aswell , it was a bit too much for me so I put a spacer over the cable where it fits onto the pedal. I still left a little play but it's much better.
Scoboblio
Cool idea! The main reason I asked is because back in my mondeo days there were quite a few cars suffering from a lot of throttle slack meaning they couldn't quite get WOT. Actually on second thought I'll leave it where it is.... my lead feet + sensitive throttle = probably not a good idea.
