Matt H
I’m booked in tomorrow to have some big brakes fitted up front and some UK rears fitted on the rear. Firstly, I’m presuming the ABS system only works with the up the front brakes, and doesn’t do anything with the rears? In that’s true what effect, if any, does fitting a larger after market brake set up, in my case AP racing 4 pot callipers and discs that just fit under 18’s, have on the stock ABS system? Does it still work fine? Ta Matt
JamieP
When i fitted the D2 8 pots made no difference to the ABS on mine:)
TrickTT
Abs works on both front and rear brakes. As long as you do not disturb the abs sensors or rings on the hub fitting bigger brakes should be fine. However, It is possible to fit brakes so big that the master cylinder cant move enough fluid in a single stroke to apply the brakes. If the master cylinder is up to the job, then the abs pump (which is matched to the master cylinder) will also cope.
Chris Wilson
Unless the piston sizing and pad area is correct the bias will be totally wrong. Whilst the ABS should stop lock ups the overall stopping efficiency can be very poor. Are they designed to run on the MKIV, and to be paired with UK rear calipers and discs? I had a Skyline in the other week that was totally dangerous as the back brakes were doing all the work, as the calipers someone had fitted to the front had far too small a piston area.
