The worst job you have done

Chipping the slag off the inside walls of an aluminium smelting furnace with a hammer and chisel.

It was physically hard work.

It was bloody hot because furnaces are very well insulated and take days to cool down but the downtime is losing a lot of money so you have to get in there ASAP.

There's very little room to move. You can't stand up. It's about the size of the interior of a small car but with brick hard very rough surfaces.

But the worst thine was the constant fear someone will forget you're in there, shut the door and fire it up.

Good incentive not to stop banging away with the hammer then... ? ;)

Working on a pig farm. Pigs are disgusting, violent, canibalistic creatures (sorry andone who enjoye the film babe)

Who ever said they were clean intelligent animals must have been confused with cats!

I used to have to clean out their pens, full of pig what not in the middle of summer, under which was a river of pig what not - smelt a bit. That and finding bits of pig, where the others had started eating a lame one, and mummified pigs at birth, they were proper minging.

*shudder*

Uni holiday job -putting cardboard boxes together and weighing frozen peas in Hull.

Xmas job once - opening modem boxes, taking the contents out, replacing the cd with a new one, putting back into another box, then finish by sticking a couple of stickers on it, joy of joys, how dull that was...

How about 'giggedy giggedy'.

Joking aside, I truly don't know how the boys in blue cope with that side of their job.

Get pissed and let off steam with your team.

Have a sick sense of humour. It all helps. Not talking about stuff is the worst thing you can do. The hard bit is going home to the family and pretending like it's been just another day. Very rare for me to talk to my wife about work, but when I have, she's been my rock.

Just got to shrug it off and move on.

Now yes, there are unpleasant bits to my job, but it all pales into insignificance when I think about our chaps and chapesses in the Armed Forces and what they have to deal with when deployed in a combat zone. My hat goes off to them.

After coming back after a week long exercise in the field me and another new lad was told that due to health and safety reasons the 3 black bags that were full of about 25 peoples sh#t for that week couldn't be skipped so we were tasked with the important job of opening these black bags and trying to flush its contents down 3 toilets. After 45 mins of gagging and vomiting and poking stick down the toilet we managed to block the 3 toilets so bad that they overflowed and we were not as happy as pigs in sh#t. I can still smell them cubicles now as we tried cleaning up with mops and buckets.

Why didn't you just lift the inspection cover to the sewage outflow pipe and pour them down there?? 10 seconds each bag... job done :)

I worked in a bakery for a one night shift, packing jam tarts and putting Cherry's on bake wells. I'm only 5foot 7 and when i came out i swear i was 6 foot. I had jam tarts all over my new trainers.

The worst thing is that i can never eat jam tarts again.

Oh if you only knew the stuff i saw in that factory:blink:
