Zed
Thanks to Ian C's fantastic post explaining in detail how the sequential system works I've been able to diagnose the reason why my 2nd turbo would dump all it's boost at 4000 rpm. As explained by Ian's post, the most likely cause for this would be a problem with the EGBV. This corresponded with a new rattly sound that I could hear from that precise area. Some of you may recall my original post ' Is my 2nd turbo dead' ? Anyway while attempting the 5 min hose TTC mod I was able to feel that the rod that exits the EGBV was no longer connected to the exhaust. I was actually happy to discover this as it will hopefully mean I don't need a new turbo ( the money can now be diverted to the CW suspension fund !!). Continued in next reply.... Zed
I have attached a picture taken from Ian's post and added an arrow which shows exactly which bit is broken. What I would now like to know is, can this be repaired or will I need a new EGBV and if so are they expensive. By the way, I didn't bother with the TTC mod as I know the cause of the problem. This post may be of some assitance to RGM who has recently posted about virtually the same problem so will PM him. Anyway thanks in advance for any advice and assistance !! :flame Dev ::Edited to say that where I say EGBV I was meant to say EGCV as spotted by Ian
Ian C
It's your EGCV, not your EGBV But that's good as it's a hell of a lot easier to get at. Which bit is broken? There is the pivot point or the end attached to the actuator arm. You've arrowed the pivot point. If that's gone I *think* it's non-fixable, I recall Chris Wilson saying so a while back. Someone need to verify that as I've got a replacement unit sat in the garage I can sell you lol I'm glad my article helped out -Ian
Ian C
Wow, actually I've got a whole actuator-and-valve unit complete, so if you need either bit I've got them -Ian

Zed
And the last one, I guess sorting this out would be a good opportunity to have my front de-cat pipe put on as well.
Chris Wilson
The actual shaft appears to have sheared. i have TIG welded these when the arm has come off the shaft, but once they break with the shaft sunken below the housing, as appears to be the case with yours, I'd say another actuator is required. They are ludicrously expensive from Toyota as they combine metallic and ceramic technology to survive in a cherry red hot environment.
Zed
Chris, thanks for the reply, just wondering, Ian has one of these which I will be contacting him about, but are you aware of any differnces between UK/J-Spec versions of the EGCV. Just that the one in Ian's pic looks slightly different. I'll most likely be contacting you directly on Monday. Cheeers mate.:flame Dev
Chris Wilson
I am not sure if the J-Spec and UK are different or not, best ask on the list if someone will check part numbers in a Toyota electronic parts catalogue (EPC).
Zed
Cheers for that Chris, so can anyone out there find out for me if the part numbers for the EGCV are different between UK and J-Spec, or can anyone confirm from experience weather there is any differnece or not. Cheers !!
dude
I probably have this part , you can just swap it out , relatively easy if you have access to a ramp , just one stage further than taking off the front cat !!!! Dude:flame Dev
Zed
Cheers for that dude, you have PM. so are you aware of any differences between uk and j-spec for this part ?
