Sisky
Hi all, i'm in Cork, Ireland comin to UK on saturday to buy a 94 j-spec GZ 6Speed manual TT I've looked through loads of thread here and am getting mixed messages about using 95RON (only readily available fuel at the pumps over here) in the TT. Had a N/A before and that wasn't a problem... can use an octane booster but I get the impression they are a waste of time? can I use 95RON - car is stock - can i get stock ecu remapped for 95 - is this a good idea appreaciate any help Cheers, Sean
bigcol
i would be more concerned at how much the robbing basterds at the revenue will want for the VRT (if you change it over that is)

jamesmark
Yes you can use 95 ron, you won't boost quite the same though.

Sisky
i would be more concerned at how much the robbing basterds at the revenue will want for the VRT (if you change it over that is) 1300Euro...which ain't bad if you know our VRT system....it means the stupid c**ts are valuaing the car at 4500 euro!! Most unfair tax in the world - they'd only get away with it in ireland
Scooter
I'd say yes if the car is running stock boost............. others will say you should always use 97.
Sisky
Yes you can use 95 ron, you won't boost quite the same though. thats what i thought...i think i can live with that (Maxol are supposed to be bringin in 99RON which is 5% etahnol in a few months so can switch over to that) so I guess the ECU can adapt after a while, switching fuels?? Is it possible to remap standard ECU? any point in this? what about octanne boosters - waste of money? Cheers

Most unfair tax in the world - they'd only get away with it in ireland now thats not bad when i lived there i had a 1993 GTO and they wanted 2500 euro to change it over, i couldnt get over the fact that the tax was over a grand for a 3 litre plus the vrt so i said bollocks to it sold it and bought a commercial landcruiser instead:d (GTO wasnt good for the roads where i lived in Connemara anyway:p:p)
jamesmark
Octane boosters are a waste, just reset the ecu by pulling the fuse or diconnecting the battery.
Minichick
was 99ron not meant to be brought in today from Maxol?

I was talking about, getting the ecu re-tuned/optimised for 95RON... what will simply resetting it do??

jamesmark
The ECU will self learn sort of speak burning 95 ron, iirc not much can be done with stock ECU.
