Hybrids - UK vs JSpec

Hi guys

A little technical advice needed. I am thinking about going the hybrid route in the future and want to see what are the benefits of using jspec or UK spec turbos.

If only the turbo housings are going to be reused, then is there any advantage in starting from UK specs, or would you get the same result from jspec? Are the jspec housings smaller?

I'm thinking, that I could keep my UK spec turbos as spares if I were able to get a pair of jspecs cheap for hybridisation.

Oh yeah, who is it on this list that can do the hybrid conversion, and what is the specification?

US and j-spec manifolds are very different. You cannot mount a decat pipe from a j-spec to a US. I cannot say for sure if the UK spec and US spec turbo manifolds are the same.

If you want to be sure then you need to get your existing turbos hybridised, you could take a chance and try using the UK spec turbos which have been hybridised, but the j-specs will not fit.

Leon has done quite a few hybrid turbos, and can tell you what sort of response you should expect from each stage. As you have a manual car you can generally drive around the lag, but as Toyota spent so much getting the sequentials right its nice to try and keep some of that bottom end.

Gavin L has some UK spec stage 2 hybrids so he can probably tell you more about how they respond.

Hi...

I'm pretty sure that the UK and US spec turbo's are one and the came thing.

Turbo lag....I went from a standard UK steel turbo car to hybrids with free flow exhaust and decat. The car spooled quicker with the hybrids over the stock car so I am happy. The extra lag for what's its worth is more than compensated for by the power increase, especially as you get more on the first turbo as well.

I know that the AR ratios of the jspec and uk spec turbos are different, I must ask Leon if that's still the case when the turbo's are uprated.
