==>Start ==>Printers and Faxes ==>Add Printer

==>Local Printer

but UNcheck the box: detect Plug and Play printer

Use existing port: LPT1

==>Create new port

==>Port type:

==>Standard TCP/IP port

(or ==>LPR port for Apple Laserwriter)

Port name or IP number: 10.63.40.81

port name: IP_10.63.40.81 (system will fill this in for you)

*************************

(Note: for LPR port:

IP number: 10.63.40.81

port name: raw ("raw" is required)

are you 100% sure that no other device has that address?

yeah its running from that IP address on a MAC, and when you type that IP in it takes you to the machines software/driver installation and set up, which then gives the same message that it cant find the printer

switched my firewall off and its still doing the same thing.

Printer is answering when we ping it yeah.

What about internal printer settings? especially port etc? I remember I DID install this exact type of printer in LAN without any tricks at all. What's printer name at printer and Window side?

I've never had a problem either. If you print out a printer configuration page does the TCP/IP section say anything different to what you expect?

No, everything seems to be as it should,

Im thinking itsmore likely to be a problem with my network settings since I cant get a few other network things to work, I cant get Itunes to work over the network too, it should play on the surround sound in the room over the network, and I cant get any torrents to work on the net either, ill have a look at the router settings

Edit: Just seen your answer - it is most likely then that port printer is working on is blocked on router.
