Ian C
You can get Upstairs Downstairs on box set Chris, we got it for my Mum last Christmas Then you can watch it when you want, not when 'they' want -Ian
cheekymonkey
I used to watch eastenders, holby city, casualty, mostly out of habit. Went off to japan for 2 weeks, with no sane TV, and when I came back, I just didn't bother. Deleted everything off my PVR and now I will watch a film maybe once a week, but no more soaps. It's a lot more fun to disappear off in to the garage in the evening, anyway
Cable
the online DVD rental is fantastic. You pay about £14 a month and they'll send you 3 discs at a time from your list you compile on the internet. once you watch a disc, pop it in the post and a few days later you'll get another one. You can watch it at your own pace. Whats also good is that you don't have to buy a whole series. I mean i love 24, lost etc but once I've watched it once I wont ever watch it again. Muffleman
We've been thinking about doing that. We knocked sky movies on the head a couple of months back as there's only so many times you want to watch the same movie.
Ian C
Oh god I've just started on 24 season 6 Who'd be Jack, eh. I thought I'd cheer myself up and finish HL2 Episode 2 instead. Then got to the end of that
tbourner
You share many of my views it seems, Chris! TBH, I'd only miss TV if everyone else still had it. When we moved and my TV broke the following day I was getting a bit stressed by missing LOST. That was when we started downloading it!! But it was only because I knew it was on and other people were talking about it - if TV was banned or for some reason stopped alltogether then I'd easily find something else to do. Agree with everyone about the internet though, it's become very similar to mobile phones now I don't know what I'd do if the mobile network went down - I'd be scared to leave the house!! hoff
I wouldn't miss it as much these days as I would have say 3 or 4 years ago. But if it was taken away from me I'd still miss it, there is very little else to do around here. Lets see: Drink Drive (not at the same time) Play footie Music (playing/listening) Internet (but i only really go on here) Cinema 10 pin Bowling TV More than i thought to be fair, but all cost money. SMiFFAD
Living without the TV wouldnt be too hard, i only turn it on when im board and have sod all else to do anyway... Top Gear would be a trucky one though..... Spose i could watch it on the net. Only reason i had cable installed was it costs me all of £3 a month more on top of my broad band, wouldnt bother with Sky etc, million channels of utter sh1te interspersed with 10 mins of adverts every five. DaveK
wouldnt bother with Sky etc, million channels of utter sh1te interspersed with 10 mins of adverts every five. Sadly true. I pay a ridiculous amount of money for something I barely watch. Once you've got it, it's difficult to get rid of it though even if you don't use it much! colsoop
I have lived without tv in the past for around 6 months its no big deal really. I would miss watching films though. I have started to read more books like i used to and tend to just flick the tele off and read instead
Eve
Rarely anything worth watching on so I could live without it. Don't have that much time to sit and watch TV. Useful when doing the ironing though.
Snooze
We've been thinking about doing that. We knocked sky movies on the head a couple of months back as there's only so many times you want to watch the same movie. Likewise - I just took off Movies & Sports when they dropped the £10 Sky+ charge. The movies channels have gone badly downhill in the last couple of years - there used to be a good progression from cinema -> DVD -> Sky Box Office -> Sky Movies, but Sky have stopped moving that many films across to Sky Movies and just keep playing the same old repeats instead. Supragal
What I do hate is that American Football is on sky only, I refuse to pay for the sports package just for that, but their monopoly irritates me.
Shane
Oh dear, I have to say although I don't watch too much of it at home, I would miss it if it wasn't there. At weekends I love watching a few hours of Discovery H&L, American Hotrod, Wheeler Dealers, the "is born" series. Also I enjoy a snap shot of the news at the weekends. I never watch soaps or chat programs. The thought of watching Jeremy Kyle type stuff leaves me cold. One of the problems for me is as that I sometimes end having to watch tv for quite long periods during the day at work and although the channels I watch at work tend not to be mainstream channels, it's still TV and some days I just cant face it by the time I get home. Have worked away for prolonged periods without UK tv and if I am honest didnt really miss it then, but I wouldn't want to give it up at home. I Hardly ever watch dvds. RobSheffield
Aside from weekly Top Gear i do live fully without TV
RICHARDA
We only have the 4 channels down here. However I find it quite relaxing after work just being able to 'switch off'. The wife hates the TV. She would rather do boring things like listen to the wireless or make love. We are about to move house fairly soon so I might combine ditching the TV with the move and see how I get on.
neil tt
This is very intresting, I wounder if we would all be intrested to stop watching it and see what else we manage to achive, although I'm just going to watch the new seriesof Spooks:d
