It won't be doing that for long. Has he got the money for new turbos, if not he better start saving quick. What ever you do don't get behind him when he is running 1.7 or 24 psi , you may get showered with bits to turbo blades blown out of the exhaust if he has no cats.

He's had his Cats removed..

At 1.7 bar the likelyhood I'll be in front is a tad slim ;)

He's assured me everythings cool. Needless to say I told him 1.4's the most ya should go up too on ceramics I think i read that on here. 1.4 tops.

I think in a perverse way he wants em to go, so he can get hybrids, its the only way he'll get the 'hybrids' past the missus.

hahah.

He's got a mint N reg, 20k miles, just put Super dragger on it, kahns, all paint touched up, koni filter, black jack alarm he's all excited.

Actually everything isn't "cool" I bet his EGT's are through the roof...at that pressure he'll have to start saving for a new engine let alone the turbo's...

He hasn't got the fueling to cope and the exhaust manifold is too restrictive...

Is your friend ever so slightly insane?

Let 'Nik' have his 1.7 then he can pay Lord Green of Turbo a visit.

MUWHA HA HAAA

(Leon rubs hands)

I don't think calling him a twat is required. Nor do I think Nik should surrender his car to Alex, he's worked hard for his Supra if he mashes it then he'll pay the price...

Surely at 1.7bar he will be getting pre-ignition (is that right?) and the engine will be misssing like a b*****d at such high boost. He is not only likely to blow his turbos but could blow the head gasket and put a hole straight through one or more of his pistons. Could be a lot more expensive than just a set of new turbos.

I'd have to say that running the turbos that high will be well beyond their efficiency band and generating far too much heat with respect to the boost. Getting deminishing returns.

Look at it this way, my hybrids generate easily as much power at 1bar as the old stock ones did at 1.2bar. The advantage is the EGT's are lower and the turbos are quite happy all day at this boost. I've got more pressure without higher temps compared to the old stock ones.

He should definitely check the fueling and EGTs.

Also he should also check the size of his injectors.

Whatever ECU he has it can only open them up to 100%, never anymore. So the max flow is that same no matter what.

If he's into tuning cars then maybe he can educate the rest of us, how does he get away with it when the rest of the industry cannot?

Anyway we can all run 25psi or whatever. It's just we choose sensibly not to.

Cool, I'll ring him later and let you in on his tuning secrets, he has been in business for 5 years or so.. So I don't know I'm not technically minded.

What would happen if ya took it up to 2.5? How long would they last. 5miles, 50 miles etc. Sorry for being a dumbo on these things.

Probably wouldn't even reach that. You would be into the realms of runaway boost then and if fuel cut didn't kick in (which I'm assuming it won't as it should have way before 1.7bar anyway) I suspect a dead engine before 6500rpm, never mind how many miles down the road.

Maybe his boost gauge is wrong, or it's actually reading 17psi?
