Seifer
Hey guys, over the last couple of days my car has been making the fluttering turbo chatter noise that you normally assosiate with large singles or rally cars. It happens just after the normal dump valve hiss. My car is completely stock apart from an air filter and a cat back exhaust. The dump valve is standard and it has never made this noise before. As much as it sounds pretty cool, i'm a bit concerned that something is wrong. I've done a search and found that it could be down to a faulty bov. Is there any way of checking if thats what the problem is? Or does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be? Thanks for all your help in advance. Supra ST Myster
either that or a split vacum pipe going to the BOV
Class One
What type of bov do you have fitted?
Seifer
AFAIK it's the standard bov. Won't disconnecting the bov damage the engine in some way?? Cheers
Class One
Sounds like you are getting some compressor stall. Either your recirc pipe has a split and the air isn't going back into the system or your bov had failed. Check all your hoses carefully.
Seifer
Which hoses will I need to check? Don't really know too much about this sort of thing sorry. Any chance of a pic of some sort? Thanks very much Dave
Homer
I think Class One is on the right track here. It sounds very much like compressor stall if you're getting the tsk-tsk-tsk sound on a full boost throttle release. The BOV has two large, short pipes either side of it (entry and exit), check those for splits and proper seal. There is also a smaller vac feed pipe, check that too as it might be leaking. jaymdee
Take the BOV off and if you block the small vacuum nozzle with your finger and can blow through the large pipes, then its bust. It should be able to withstand at least 1.5 Bar (mine did when I tested it) if you apply a pressure to the vacuum line, and seal it, then apply a pressure to the large pipe as though it was coming form the turbos. Any 'farting' type sounds and it's probably had it
