Electrical Q about a car im looking at

A car im looking at has a couple of things i need some advice on. When starting up a few of the dash lights dont come on (engine warning, brake...and another one), but i think the warning triangle still comes up. The odometer hasnt been converted to miles yet and is still reading km's yet the speedo is in miles. Is this just lazy wiring when it was imported or something to be worried about?

Oh, some suggestion it could be a fuse or multiplug to fix it?

My lights were the same recently. if the main warning triangle works (and goes off once started) then its unlikely there is a problem as such its more likely the pins just need resoldering (Emin did mine) on the whole unit.

My odo is still showing and counting up in km's with the speedo in Mph, so no real problem there either IMO.

If you are getting someone to look at the car, then it would be a 10-15 minute job to try their same display unit in the car.

Are these all on the section off to the top right of the dash? If so, it's a fairly common problem and re-soldeing the connectors will usually fix it.

After talking to 250horses about this a lot, I think what is happening is that it is ticking up in miles but the number hasnt been changed back to miles. ie, first 70k is km's and the rest is miles etc.... Will a good import garage change it all back to miles for me?

That's the correct way then :)

You can have it all converted to miles but you're effectively clocking it... (same procedure) bit of a grey area but if it makes you happy and you can get some kind of verification certificate with some before and after pics then you'll be ok if you ever come to sell.

Cheers,

Brian.
