THOR Racing
I can get around 270miles with 80% motorway driving. This can vary, but normally I know I can go 250miles without any problem and another 20-30 when the empty light comes on. Never gone until the tank was dry though. Never any smell of petrol. Adam Kindness
hmmm, i get around the same mileage.... but there is a definate petrol smell coming from somewhere..... not out the exhaust, but from the engine.... dont notice it at idle, only when moving slowly with the windows down
Barry
I get about 250 miles to a full tank to when the light first comes on, and thats just driving to work and back (around town). I did manage to get 340 miles from my recent trip to Cheltenham and back. I'll never risk driving too far with the light on, although Branners seems to think that his new uk spec can run on vapour!!! Which of course it cant as we found out one sunny afternoon on our way back from Pod.!!!
Terminator
Take off you fuel cap slowly with no naked flames etc and see if you have a pressure build up when you get the smell.
Adam Kindness
what would cause that?
Alex
I assume that would suggest a blockage or shagged charcoal canister in the engine bay? Yes?
Dragonball
Adam First timeI spotted this thread I still get this petrol smell - tracked it down to the petrol cap area Yes there is (sometimes) pressure build up - and it usually only happens on warm days Adam - did you cure this? was it the cannister and can anyone please point me on how to clear this out? Many thanks for any info - as always! Cheers Paul:cool:
Suprash
Adam, I get a build of pressure in my fuel tank as well, the thing is its all the time, ebery time I undo the cap, ssshhhhhh........!!! Can someone explain in more detail what this problem is, how serious is it and what needs to be done......
JamesG
I'm not aware that a slight pressure build-up in the tank is a problem. Mine does it quite often. In fact my Owner's Manual (admittedly not for the J-Spec car) says: "It is not unusual to hear a slight swoosh when the cap is opened. When installing, turn the cap clockwise till you hear a click." Bobbeh
First tank I had was when I was bring my car back from Wales.. and it was on 350 miles, im sure I could have had 400 outta it if I hadnt had "fun" with the last 1/4. And this wasnt exactly doing 60 all the way back either. Since then, im doing 200-250 miles, but thats a lot of short journeys through town and aceelerating then stopping etc.. I'll be doing more motorway driving soon so I'll be able to update ya with other stats Does get expensive with the opitmax tho. But also more fun

Branners
Ahha, well, you see, I was used to the gauge in the import which is on a smaller tank so when it hits the red you know its time to stop, the UK spec has a larger tank to measure with teh same gauge so when it got down near the read I worked on the principle I had some fuel left to struggle to the petrol station.
