steb9780 Posted October 13, 2007 Share Posted October 13, 2007 I actually enjoy CNC machining, there's a certain sense of achievement when you get a block of metal, work out and write a program, pick and load cutters and then do the job. Some people work on multi-million pound machines at work and everything is donw for them pretty much (programs, probing etc.) all they do is load a billet and press go. Where we have to do most of it ourselves on our little section. It's harder work, but personally I feel it's more rewarding. Some of the managers/supervisors are a bit irritating, but we usually sort them out. There's also little perks like having the ability to make "foreigners" etc. Although I do tend to shit myself when flying airbus, and I see a row of bog seats (I think the tech term for them is centre hinges or somthing) in the wings, that we've probably inline bored Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ozz Posted October 13, 2007 Share Posted October 13, 2007 I love my job, I'm a IT Tecnical Analyst in a nickel refinery. I did try 'the good life' owning holiday homes and doing them up for nearly two years, was great but I missed the routine of 9-5 so I'm back in full time IT. Was chuffed this week, only been with the company 8 months and have just been offered a 'new' position of IT supervisor for the UK sites, promoted over other IT analysts that have been there years. Will mean more time in London and Canada (we are canadian owned) but thats all good. First time I've had 'proper' staff responsibilities so that will be interesting. We mostly make the "complete package" for slaughter house. Where they process the intestines. We have been to the Uk a couple off times, just cant rember where. Not in funds management but I operate as a financial advisor to companies and act as shadow Finance Director for a portfolio of clients. Actually quite interesting as the clients tend to be cash rich businesses that undertake a lot of acquisitions or diversification so get some fun with identifying target companies etc and preparing deals as well as the general running of the businesses. Kieran Posted October 13, 2007 Share Posted October 13, 2007 I'm a railway signalling tester, sometimes I love it cos I work with some ace lads, sometimes I hate it cos I'm forever driving up and down the M6 and I spend most weekends in a hotel. Got to go to Ipswich for the weekend after the football, which will be a 400 mile round trip but I suppose £500 for 20 minutes actual work ain't too bad.
