Slow Car Trade......

Hey Everyone,

Is it me or has the whole car buying/selling trade slowed down tremendously recently???

Im selling my supra, my friends selling his VW Golf 1.8T, and my other friends selling his Audi TT 225. We've all had our cars advertised for a month or so now and neither of us had really had a sniff of serious interest!

A few months ago I had people requesting I sell my car to them, and now it seems I cant shift it!! Ive even reduced the price!!

How bizarre!!!! :search:

From the adverts on here, Supra's don't seem to be selling at all. Maybe the current interest rates / house market slow down etc is having an effect.

Christmas is not so far away now either, so it's getting increasingly unlikely people will want to shell out lots of money on a car in the near future.

What version Golf is it and the same for the TT? Both have had fairly new versions released not so long ago so that might explain those two.

I agree with DaveK though... Life is expensive at this time of year and with interest rates up and everything getting expensive, people just don't have the money. Credit is also harder to get from banks atm.

The golf is a 'V' Reg, and the TT is the same, so new versions have come out on both. Just hard to believe though, I can understand with the Interest rates, etc. Just a bit of a pain in the rear when i've got another car im interested in lined up, and I cant sell mine to fund it!

Im tempted to lower the cars price even lower to tempt more buyers, but I dont really wanna be advertising her for below £9K when I know it is worth more! :banghead:

Maybe I was lucky, but I listed my Supra and my old Elise for sale last week. The Elise sold in 3 days, the Supra sold in 6 days. Both for nearly the full asking price. Both cars were modified. Arguably, the Supra was one of the less desirable ones (red, j-spec, auto).

I made sure both cars were clean and polished and spent quite a lot of time taking decent photos. I listed them on Pistonheads at reasonable prices with little room for negotiation.

I kept the description short and to the point and any bad points of the cars (there were only minor ones) I told people when they contacted me - *not* in the advert itself!

You've basically got to make sure that there's nothing in the advert that will put people off the car. I suspect bodykits are the main thing that puts people off Supras.

I posted mine on for what I had been told was a reasonable price of £9850. To look on other sites, there are other RZ-S VVTi TT's about, but are mainly '97 plates and are up for £11k+. Mind taking into account mine has done 100k miles, but bein a '98 plate, I thought it was priced to sell. I may reduce to £9075 and see how I go from there......:carwash:

Lets see what the weekend brings..... :friday:

Seems to be a lot of TTs for sale at the moment. Definitely a good time to buy, I'm looking for a later 97/98 NA supra manual in gunmetal but they are rare as fook. Lot of cheaply priced TTs about but you're right, nothing seems to be shifting.

There is a stunning 98 VVTI in black just come up now - 36k and only £9500! I was sorely tempted to go over to the darkside with that one.

Wow £9500 for a 98 VVTi with 36k! Thats a good price. Is it a TT or an N/A? Manual or Tiptronic?

Being realistic with the price helps.... you were james, but alot are just plain greedy, so hence no sale...either that or there just old pigs;)

Simple, at the right price anything will sell, if you overprice it be prepared to be stuck with it for a while. HTH:D

In theory I agree with that. Location of course has an effect. I sold my car after 7 months of aggressive advertising (and I know how to write an advert) it sold for £11.5k A short month later and the guy that bought it from me was offered the £14k I actually wanted for it up north in scotland. So sometimes location can decide a cars price.
