Help! I need to write some editorial relating to IT of an interesting nature.

I've got some free editorial for some local ads to help promote our salesroom. One's a weekly free newspaper (Telford Journal), the other an A5 glossy. I've no idea what subject to cover though.

It has to hold the interest of the reader, well...be of any interest to actually want to start reading it at all would be a start.

Any ideas what I should write about?

Title: 'How to download the latest Hollywood movies and burn them to DVD for free'

You'll have a busy Saturday me thinks :D

Seriously how about something along the lines of online media (legit routes of course) ie: music downloads (decides the top 40 now) Catching up on tv online etc...

Or just think what would Moss do :D

I'd already thought of that one ;)

Title: 'Why switching it off and then on again really works!' :D

:rlol:

Few more ideas we've had:

  • Social networking websites
  • Wireless networks - Lots of open networks, so many they interfere with each other, new high speed connections
  • Home entertainment i.e streaming from one room to another DVDs, mp3 etc from their PC

Who would have thought it, 'IT' and 'Interesting' in the same title :p

Harsh but true.

People will see those two letters and think . 'This will be some geeky stuff which I'm really not interested in.

It has to be something that appeals to the majority of people like music or films. How many people do you meet that aren't interested in music for example.

Make it catchy. Short bullet point style writing to keep the reader on their toes and always thinking. Try and include something witty and funny but don't try too hard.

Similar to a presentation, the beginning and ends of the article are the most important. Start off with a question to get the ball rolling and their minds thinking. End with something that will leave them with wondering....

Just a few ideas off the top of my head. Excuse the poor punctuation.

This isn't really an issue so I'd scrub this one. High speed connections fall under the 'geek' catagory I'm afraid.

The streaming media is a good one as it's something many folk probably don't understand.

How would I go about doing that? Do you mean stream to my TV instead of me breaking my back and lugging my PC up and down the stairs? Tell me more please :)

I would go with the whole media centre pc route lots of areas to cover and it is opf interest to a broad range of people.

Looks like this is a winner so far then.

That's my worry. Thanks for the tips.

Home media systems, in fact I can give you a list of software that I've been looking at. I'm currently setting up a system at home which will provide NTL in each room with PVR capability.

Windows - Windows Media Center, SageTV, gbpvr and a few more

Linux - LinuxMCE, plutohome, Mythtv

Or you could cover Windows Home Server...

EDIT : Or I could just look at the date on the thread :)
