ADL Mark
Can anyone recommend a good USB to Serial adaptor that will work ok under Vista and not get grumpy connecting to things like ECU's and Dataloggers etc.? There's plenty about but I'm not sure about the cheapy ~£25 ones in case they're a bit flakey. I have enough flakiness with Vista
ivan
You could try contacting the seller/manufacturers of various ones and ask if they will work OK under the conditions you specify.
n boost
Mate, i had a similiar issue. I tried various different makes but none worked with my e manage cable. I think Belkin fsu-109 is one of the better ones.
cheekymonkey
To be honest most of them are based off just a coupe of chipsets, so it's all much of a muchness. You start getting problems when the device you're connecting to uses very precise timing, my PIC programmer is like this - as the USB to serial convertors are generallty not "real" RS-232 ports. If you're on a laptop a good option would be a PCMCIA serial port...
ADL Mark
I understand the PCMCIA is better, unfortunately it's a new laptop and only has an ExpressCard slot which really narrows the options. It would probably be easier to get a cheap second hand laptop for just this purpose to be honest..
