Kev_A
...What exactly should you be telling them? I know you should declare everything etc etc. The reason I'm asking is that I'm interested in buying Elliots car, I've found a pretty good quote (considering my age etc - 23, 4 years NCB) of £1042 (this is without declaring any mods) however, Elliots car has a few "Extras" and I'm worried declaring them would send my quote through the roof although I know, ultimately I'm going to have to otherwise I'll effectively be paying £1042 for a piece of paper which stands for shit. So with exterior mods, Elliot's has a meshed front bumper, with silver lip, Veilside side skirts, Veilside spats, TRD Style Carbon bonnet, Rear spoiler removed, Rear wiper removed, Rear wiper sprayer removed,Aerial removed, Rear window tints - Could I just say the car has a bodykit and the rear windows are tinted? surely they won't be aware that the car should have a rear spoiler? The list goes on (with elliots car ) but I suppose what I'm trying to get at is do I need to go into great detail when declaring mods, itemising every little thing or can the be "grouped" or "categorised " a little? Likes of the interior, could I just put those mods down to "Interior decorative changes"? any help appreciated, Kev
Jake
Depends on the company. Try it and see what they say. Some might say 'OK body kit and Interior decorative changes' others might ask for the full details. Where possible I just grouped things together, eg turbo kit, fuel system, aftermarket suspension, etc but then my insurance doesn't go up if I add/change anything because I'm already paying for Fully Modified so adding other stuff doesn't matter. Nick
Try and talk to an insurance company that understands modifications. If you phone someone like Tesco's then the doris on the end of the line won't have a clue what you're talking about. Just say bodykit including front bumper, sideskirts, rear spoiler. Doubt they'll be concerned about the interior unless it has things like buck seats, roll cage etc. Specialists will usually cover sensible cosmetic, suspension and brake modifications for a % over the normal premium. Exhaust and filter changes are normally not a problem either, but as soon as you start talking about bigger turbos etc then they really start to load up the premium. I may try Sky and see what they say, if I declare one thing I might aswell do the lot, good idea about speaking to specialists too, there just seems to be so much on Elliots car, I wouldn't want to miss anything out, I suppose a shortlist would be something like Bodykit Tinted windows Alloy wheels Suspension Air filter & exhaust FMIC BOV Interior decorative changes (would the gauges etc. come under that too?) Would that about cover it?

JamesG
It has a rollcage... I found loads of companies wouldn't insure my 200sx once I'd fitted a rollcage. Try Heritage Vehicle Insurance, they accepted it. Also you could ask Elliot which company he is with. They will already have a list of the modifications. SupraHuman
You better tell them all about your car bud,if you dont declare all the mods you are practically driving without insurance.Do as Jake suggested with grouping the mods.I had all my mods declared with Sky insurance and I paid £870 pr year. When I told them I was going to fit a rollcage, they told me to get stuffed. Then I got a quote from a local company, all mods declared incl rollcage and I now pay £370 pr year fully comp.So shop around dude and dont lie about mods
Guest howie700
Hi Kev, I know I'm a lot older than you but I only have two years, coming up to three. Went through Sky and declared everything down to the last nut and bolt, and for an extra £36 they gave me a guaranteed write off price, which, god forbids it happens, would buy me another like supra. Cost for me,,,, £647.... No doubt yours will be higher because of the age but definately give them a try Cheers, Howie
lockys96
with your age and that spec, you should pay 700-800 pounds

slow_matt
Also you could ask Elliot which company he is with. They will already have a list of the modifications. He would have to give his company express permission to discuss his policy otherwise it would break data protection rules. with your age and that spec, you should pay 700-800 pounds Not trying to be funny but as an underwriter I wouldn't offer the fella a rate on the details he's given on the site (just because I don't know enough about his details). Really he should just call about and get a few speculative quotes from the usual suspects and play them off each other (HIC and Adrian Flux wont compete against each other as Adrian Flux bought HIC out a while back). Cheers Matt
heartworm
I found adriun flux unwilling to compete against anyone, they quoted me well over a grand more than anyone else when I was looking for an L200, and refused to do anything about it
