dilocruzy
Just got the offer of a new role at Honda near Slough and am looking for a place to move on the M3 corridor, near Basigstoke. Anyone could recomend nice place(s) area(s) to start looking? Any websites that could help would be great too. Many thanks, Danilo

movistar
Iam in farnborough its OK here...town is a bit crap though but its all being done up!not so much on the night life here, camberley down the road is quite nice more of a town and night life is better...basingstoke is about 30 mins from here on the m3. Look at fleet 2 ok their as well....even closer good pubs and restaurants
Supragal
Basingstoke is ok lol It's not like the murder capital of the world or anything and it's got a big town centre etc Why were you thinking this way? Buying or renting?
DaveK
Actually, I don't think Basingstoke is too bad if you choose the right area. The town center is pretty good now. Camberley is not an exciting town at all and I wouldn't rate the night life. There are a fair few (loud) pubs, and two night clubs. Fleet is OK, but again - if you want somewhere lively I wouldn't choose it. In fact, if you want somewhere lively I'd probably commute from Reading. Schtuv
What are you looking for? Space, nearby fishing, country pubs, clubbing, somewhere to keep your personal zoo ... I'm just outside Basingstoke. I quite fancy the thought of moving to Reading, but the Reading to Basingstoke road gets *really* busy at rush hour. True - but since his new job is in Slough, he'd have to be pretty stupid to drive there via Basingstoke from Reading.

dilocruzy
Hey guys/gals, thanks for the advice. Very much apreciated! I would hate to spark an argument so here is some more detail on my move: I am considering M3/Basigstoke area cause my Fiancee works in Southamptom so it is only fair that we live halfway... We are looking to rent (for now...) a two bedroom flat/house, not too fussed about whats near, but hopefully with good links to the motorway. I commute by motorcycle but other half drives so it would be great if we could avoid very busy links to the M3 (Southamptom bound). Our budget is about £800 but may be swayed depending on the location. Many thanks once again for the repplies! Danilo
DaveK
In that case, I think Fleet / Farnborough / Camberley are probably too far East for you (which I guess you already know which is why you suggested Basingstoke). I know a girl who lived in Chineham (now rents her flat out) and that seemed an OK area. I'm not sure the M3 is so bad in that direction - it will be a problem as you get close to Southampton I guess, but when I go to work the London direction is stationary and the Southampton direction is usually fairly free flowing (although busy). Supragal
Where does Bordon fit on that map? Have a look, if you're thinking about buying it could be good. It's about 30 mins from Basingstoke, 45+ to Reading, not sure about Slough. Bit further to Southampton but right on the A3.
dilocruzy
Thanks for all the advice, I kinda narrowed it down to three: Basingstoke itself (not convinced tho), Old Basing and Hook. I will go for a ride on the weekend to see how far/busy the junctions will be from those places to give me some idea of how long it will take to get to the M3. Still open to any suggestions... DaveK
Hook is a pretty small place and is actually on a motorway junction, so you'd have no problem with motorway access. It's only about 15 minutes from Basingstoke centre (Hook doesn't have much in the way of shops.....). If you want somewhere quiet, Hook might be a good choice. I dont mind driving to go shopping, prices in local shops are always well above supermarkets.

Pabs
I drive through Hook every day on my way to work - as mentioned above you come off the motoroway and you are in Hook instantly. Not much to it really, but Basingstoke is only 1-2 junctions south on the M3. From my 8 months of research about Basingstoke, a lot of the people who slag it off have not actually ever been or lived there. It used to be terrible (from what I've heard) but getting better. I LOVE the area I'm moving to - it's dead quiet, a matter of minutes from the M3 and Basingstoke center, and the surrounding houses all have something for me to aim for in the future (very nice indeed)

Pabs
Well we've just moved in today I've just managed to get my 3G Broadband mobile card working (it's not mine though - i got it from work ) so I'm on the net briefly! I've moved to the very edge of Kempshott - basically South West of Basingstoke, just off J7 of the M3. Relatively new development (mid 1980's) Bryant houses - depressing as we're one of the only 2 beds in the area though - everything else is 3+ bedrooms! Nice little cul-de-sac, and the house backs onto fields for miles! (Although been told that these will eventually be built on)
