Matt Harwood
A car registered on V-car means that it has been subject to a total loss claim in one form or another. IIRC cat D is most minor, cat C is usually fairly serious, cat B means it can only be used as spare parts, and cat A means it must be crushed. - I could be wrong on that lot though. So a car on V could be a total loss on either cat a,b,c or d?
boromfccup
i bought a cat c , fto mivec, had only interior plastics damage, wrote off on cat c, no external damage at all, depends on how old car is and the cost of parts, they will write an fto off, for a dented front bumper, as they cost a fortune from dealers to replace
Ewen
My wifes car is a VCAR "VCAR Vehicle Condition Alert Registered vehicle (insurance write-off) VCAR status remains with the vehicle for the rest of its life, regardless of it being repaired and checked to be of a safe standard. Inclusion on the VCAR register does not indicate that the vehicle has been repaired." In her case, it was written off due to cost of repairs for minor / cosmetic damage plus hire-car costs after she put through a claim. Bought back from insurers, and re-registered and re-insured through the same insurers. VCAR does not necessarily mean unsafe, just that its been registered as a write-off for one of several reasons.
