Darren
My TT does not appear to be making positive boost on the first turbo Its noticibly quieter and the rumble has gone! Basically its become an NA. The car is running perfectly just no boost. On the digital boost gauge it ticks over at -50 or so and when driving goes up to about -5 but thats it the + 1.25 is just not happenning! Its not smoking and I cannot find any pipes split or off. Engine oil is immaculate. Temp gauge spot on. I dont use it much and a seized first turbo has been suggested (probably in desperation ) If you get it up to 60 and boot it you get some boost which I think is the second turbo coming in? So please can someone tell me what would cause these symptoms? I have the car now with a good mechanic but he is not Supra specific hence the request for pointers. Sorry if this is a bit disjointed but I was up alnight and then have spent the day playing with the car!
hiten55
i had that after i got it back from my mechaninc. sounds strange, but i put my hand down by the turbo's (when the engine was cold) and jiggled a few things around. that did the trick. Mark at phoenix suggested to me that i check the actuators for the turbo's and all the pipework. simple test i found was to put it in neutral, rev to 3k rpm and release, if the turbo is working you should hear the bov release air. think i got lucky more than anything, but its a starting point for you i guess.... Dash Rendar
And check you haven't blown off a vacuum hose. If you're getting a little boost, but no rush, sounds like #2 isn't coming on, rather than #1.
Guest mk47
Mine did that, my turbo had blown so was not giving any boost until 3500rpm when the 2nd turbo comes on.. but mine was smoking loads out the back though at the same time. DODGYDODDS
i blew my second which showed same characteristics as your's just mine suffered from 4000rpm all though i could build boost it severely dropped of at 4000rpm and performed like a lada, If your sure all plumbing is in order then i would say your 1st turbo had gone hense no pressure build up low-down. just to add when my turbo went, i didn't get a lot of smoke comming out of my exhaust. If it is your turbo, sorry to hear mate

gaz1
it does sound like a hose or activater arm problem have you checked all the hose connections, the ones around the back are a real pain though, one member had cable ties holding his pipes together:rolleyes: but with the age of these cars now the boost pipes are about shagged, i had all mine changed when i had twins and that done the trick

Darren
Have you acually had the turbos off the car to check the exhaust wheel? Had the front turbo pipes off. The car never showed any of the classic signs of the wheels breaking up. Want to eliminate and check everything else before we start stripping the whole lot off. Jusy trying to be methodical..... Well its usually the exhaust wheels that go on a J Spec car as they are ceramic. The intake wheels are metal. So just looking in the intake side will not prove anything. Darren
Old thread but I finally got the Supra sorted this week Only taken 4 months!! The arm had come off of turbo one and was missing! It shuts the wastegate so it was stuck open hence no boost Specialist who fixed it had never seen this before More quality work from the respected tuner I used a few years ago to upgrade to hybrids The cars running so sweet again Mechanic actually took the time to comment about how well sorted the car is and how strong and cleanly it runs Praise indeed from a guy who builds engines on loads of skylines/scoobies. Very happy happy on the drive home
