lockys96
not supra related, but my new mr2 is a toyotagt now, as the timing is 20c out and lamba reading 19, ive put my car in as its onlt making 0.6bar on the t88-34d turbo, a load of checks were done today, tested boost contoller (working fine) wastegate turbo for play, damage (no noticable damage) timing (way out) idle (way out) compresion test (14 good) etc car is set up so lean its ready for DET:eek: car has been left, and f-con is by-by and link with ryan g is in! the car is not making much boost, so could be turbo related, so might needing to change, What flange fittings are normally used on T88-34D Greddy turbos? and what turbo for true 500hp thanks simon
Guest Nicholas
The greddy T88-34D is the biggest of the T88's and capable of 900+bhp. Awesome turbo perhaps too big for an MR2 I'd go T04R
RobSheffield
Typical of Japanese tuned cars, make as much power as possible....Detonation? Nah dont worry about that! Bearing in mind the T88 is MASSIVE on a Supra, id say a GT35R would be the best to go for.

I still reckon they may be too big, and you will just be paying for a name. The T88 family is likely to be far too big for the Mr2, it just wont produce enough gas to spool it mate. lockys96
prob why the timing was so far advanced, the distrbuter was even further round
michael
GT35R / GT3540 seem to be the turbos of choice, it's what the 10 second cars were running at TOTB if memory serves me right, one on a tired engine, one on a new untested one - on a proper setup you should be tempting high 9's Worked OK on the handling course too. Is yours still a 2 litre? The 88s seem to work OK for drag racing on the 2.2 cars but the GT turbos are catching up...
lockys96
2.2 mic, the problem might be the wastgate spring which has gone?
mikeyb10supra
Bearing in mind the T88 is MASSIVE on a Supra, id say a GT35R would be the best to go for. yep same here, gt35r or maybe slightly smaller for a track car
michael
the problem might be the wastgate spring which has gone? That won't be helping If the budget allows for it get the know issues fixed, get mapped on the T88 and you might be quite happy with it. It's never going to be an ultra responsive fast road and track car with that turbo but it'll be rather fun when it does eventually boost. lockys96
yeh, if the turbo turns out to be fine, then ill keep it for now. lets hope its wastegate related..
lockys96
just to bump this thread up again. the t88 is fine and working, but will look to change to a gt35 after the new year, now, are there many different types of gt35? which one would i be advised to get, and which to stay clear of? many thanks, from the guys which dont take 4weeks to post a reply 'mr2 forum'
michael
GT3540 seems like the one to have for a low 10's high 9's car but if you want to track the car too there might be more responsive options. I'm a bit out of touch with such things, the turbo of the moment was the GT35R last time I took any notice but that was a while ago.
lockys96
yeh, whats this years turbo advances? i have no idea which to get. all i know about my current turbo is that its T4 fitment, has 100mm inlet, and 94mm vband outlet. suprafan72
I know the gt35r works well on the mr2 engines.. expect spool around 3,800 though... full boost around the 4,300 mark... easily a 600 hp turbo with the right mods.
lockys96
GT3582R ordered in T4 form .68 trim should make the car trackable,
JamieP
For a 4 pot id say the gt35 is still to big, id have gone for a Gt3076 if 500bhp is what you want, many of the evo boys use this turbo with great results, 500bhp and fast spool. lockys96
but jamie, we can crack the boost up to 1.8 id actually prefer nearer 600, as would like to do some 1/4 mile also. im sure the 2.2 motor will help with the spool:)
JamieP
Ok, i was going by the original question for 500bhp which would be great in a light car like an MR2. With the extra lag the car would be slower in the first 4 gears imo and i bet you wont get full boost till past 4k with the gt35, which is not ideal for a track car imo.
