Hi,

Mrs H and I thought we'd go and get ourselves a new bed this week as our old one is 11 years old and had seen some action.....:eyebrows:

We started looking on Tuesday afternoon in Wigan and because I have large purchase syndrome and must get the perfect bargain we I decided that we must go to 4 shops and then make a decision. In the third shop we found a bed that was £750 that we really liked and although I didn't want to spend that much I felt quite comfy! We still hadn't been to the last shop on my list and it bothered me that a better deal could be had. We were honest enough to say that we liked the bed but we had another place to look before we made a decision. The girl in the shop said "no problem". Then a guy in a shirt and tie comes accross with a piece of paper in his hand saying that the price of the bed we liked was going to increase tonight...... What a tosser, oldest trick in the salesmans book or what! I said "nevermind, it's not for us then is it?" and left the store.

We then went to Bensons in Wigan and couldn't find anything we liked for a similar price...:( At that point it was time to collect the kids so the hunt went cold!

Today we resumed our search but I had a dilemma, the best bed for the money was in the shop where the "tosser" had tried to push us into buying.. I decided to go back to the first shop that we'd looked in as we weren't looking at the more expensive ones at that point and lo and behold found the perfect comfy bed but at £815. I was still curious about the "other" bed and whether the price had increased as it was still quite good. So we went back and checked as I wanted to go to Maccy Dees, the shop was next door and I wanted to have a go at this tosser! The price had remained the same after all and we told the girl on sales that we really liked the bed but the guy had pissed us off!! He turned out to be the manager who tries that trick with everyone apparently...:sly:

So off we went and bought the more expensive bed. Overall it was the better deal but I wouldn't have gone back to the first of the four shops if it wasn't for this idiot and he would have got the sale in hindsight!

Never underestimate your customers but i wonder if his tactic works more than it fails. In this case it failed....;)

If you want to get at the tosser, a quick letter detailing the above sent to head office should result in a slap on the wrist for him. :)

Hmm!! Food for thought.....:eyebrows:

Being the sales manager for my company I found it very "double glazing"!! I suppose in shops you feel that you only have one chance to make a sale but people always shop around these days. You are either very rich or very stupid if you don't.....

I work in an industry where you get repeat business so looking after your customers is everything! I was really shocked when the salesgirl said "Oh, that's Charlie, the manager. He's always telling lies and trying it on"!

He's a poop salesman Harvard then ;) A top salesman would of pulled the wool over your eyes without you knowing trust me there :) I was in a pushy sales environment for 5 years ;) Seen all sorts lol...

I don't think I'm pushy but I say things that make people comfortable and reasure them. At the end of the day I use tactics that would make me buy things myself!!

He was a prick of the highest order!!:D Last gasp desperate attempt at a sale! I would rather have lost the sale and kept my dignity personally!

When i worked in car sales, there was a senior sales manager who had so little grasp of 'sales techniques' (or common sense!) that most of used to avoid him at all costs.

He used to call people 'sunshine', say to people he didnt think were serious, 'what if i did it with £3000 off'? which then ruined any chance of a sale, as they would want it at the price he just said

He was pretty daft!

As proud as when he announced to everyone on a public forum that you needed an new bed because yours had seen so much action?? :p

Why would I be offended at that? By action he meant kids using it as a trampoline, projectile vomiting on it etc.... what did you think he meant?:conf:

....at least he didn't post up pictures..:spank::slapped::whip:

I use to be in a sales environment, I use to sell what the customer needed rather than what they wanted. I usually found that they spent a little bit more after I explained it to them and they came back and asked for me :) I was always in the top three sales spot

True!! The guy at sleepmasters in Wigan was very helpful and basically said that you'll know the one that's right for you!

I didn't look at any prices and found the right one! Sods law it would be one of the most expensive ones... Vicki was very helpful, she said she couldn't give a toss as she can sleep on a washing line....:D

She's going to be upset at Christmas....:)
