Tom
Right I've searched previous threads on this about oil filter removal etc and I think I might buy this SST tool, unless the halfords one is any good? Anyway I bought the lexus V8 oil filter yesterday and I now just need some oil, but before I attempt to change the oil, do I need anything else like new gaskets or something?? or is all this included with the oil filter? Thanks Tom
merckx
No, you don't need anything else. I used my oil filter tool which has a strap,it wraps around the filter and you turn the socket wrench until the slack is taken up and it then will loosen the filter. Any oil filter removal tool will do, it's just a bit fidly because of all the pipes and things in the way.
asupracar
If you remove the power steering reservoir it makes it so much easier to reach
paul mac
Originally posted by asupracar If you remove the power steering reservoir it makes it so much easier to reach yep 3 bolts holding power steering reservoir in pull it foward and tie it out of the way it wont leak, when you slacken the filter ( i never use a strap wrench on mine so you may be able to undo it by hand) dont undo it any further put a plastic bag on it (with no holes !) then undo it, then hopefully you wont slop to much oil on your drive, like asupracar sez with the reservoir out of the way you can now lift the filter out from the top as opposed to droping it out of the bottom (oil everywhere)

Terminator
I have used a copper washer recently , just heat it up each time to soften it. The OME ones are aluminium sandwiched between blue fibber.
