how_supra
I'm almost certain its the battery but would like to hear your views I got in my Punto this morning and the battery was dead, no dash lights, no ignition lights, no nothing. I've not driven it since Wednesday] So I jump start the car and it springs to life, I leave it running for a bit, and drove it round the block, [15 minutes ought to be enough to charge it], so I parked up, turned the engine off, and tried it a second time. Nothing, dead, not a sausage, just a click click noise.... I Jump start it again, check the battery and it's holding charge on its own at a constant 12.7v, so to me that rules out the alternator? If it was the starter motor I would at least have some dash lights or something I'm assuming Thoughts? PS: I'm beginning to think I harvest some special power that destroys all things electrical! Yep sounds like battery, if it were an alternator issue the car would die when the jump leads were removed, check it tho, should maintain charge of roughly 14V regardless of RPM. If it were a starter problem jump starting wouldnt have made a diifference and ignition lights, power window etc would all work ok, but you have none! However i dont think 15 mins is enough to get it charged up fully, try charging it over night then see what happens but you know what they say about fiats........Fix It Again Tomorrow;)
how_supra
Cheers Jim.....I've already had someone else say Fix It Again Tomorrow, so ha ha.... Will jump start it now, and leave it running out the back for a bit longer than 15mins then.... I'll get the alternator checked tomorrow too!!
