Tannhauser
My monitor decided to die today, so I got an old one down from the loft and connected that. It displays the 'Windows starting' screen fine, but as soon as it's on the XP profiles page - and once profiles have loaded - it displays it squashed up so that there are about 6 abreast (with 6 cursors too). It's also shot through with lines so that it's virtually impossible to read. I've got it running in safe mode at the moment and the display is OK, but can't get it to do anything in XP. I might be stuck with this monitor for a little while. I've tried fiddling around with display options in safe mode - no luck so far.How can I get it to work in normal XP? Any ideas? Thanks Cliff
Homer
In safe mode change your display properties to the minimum value, click apply then restart in normal mode. If this fails, boot to safe mode again and modify your monitor type to one of the default ones. Hope this helps
Homer
also , if you are using "adapter" - "display all modes" try using a display mode with a low refresh rate - the repeated cursors would indicate the monitor cannot handle the current refresh rate. Tannhauser
Hmm It looks like this might be along the right lines - at least it does something, but doesn't fix it. . I have the lowest colour/resolution, but still same thing. The 'list all modes' just says 'default refresh' for all. Also, it just has 'default monitor' already selected and the 'properties' box is greyed out.
Homer
If you're still getting problems after resetting the modes option then I'd suggest uninstalling / reinstalling your graphic drivers, since they could be resetting previous monitor configuration
