Ewen
Caught the tail end of the news banging on about the new jumbo size Highway Code listing 'smoking whilst driving' an offence ? So I assume prohibition of using radios / CD players next, maybe then wing mirrors and rear view mirrors will be outlawed as distractions. Taking your hand off the wheel to change gear ? Forget it unless you want three points. Banning the use of potentially hypnotic window wipers would be a good idea too. Bogeys would have to stay lodged up your nose to avoid potential prosecution and Jock-itch would only be scratched legally at service stations. Perhaps it will all reach its logical climax when they require blacked out windscreens to avoid distraction from other traffic.
DaveK
They discussed it on the news, and said it wasn't actually an offence - BUT - if you had an accident, the police might take it into account and decide you were not driving with all due care etc. I'm not sure how they prove it. But I don't care - I don't smoke.

jazz1
it all makes sense really because they banned smoking as alot of people are getting problems and its costing the NHS alot of money so they want to totally ban smoking, although i dont smoke i dont mind people who smoke as i used to love kissing my ex was smoked:d. I think its not fair

I think its not fair Fat people costs NHS way more then smokers. Smoker get cancer, half a year and bye. Fat people living next 30-40 years eating tons of subsidised drugs and getting social money, because they are too fat to work

Ewen
:)I'm on about the issue they are making of smoking being a distraction when driving, like mobile phones, eating mars bars an shit.
peter richards
well a mars bar doesnt produce a cloud in front of your eyes for one , plus you dont have to flick it at a small window opening every two bites,
Charlotte
they will be trying to do you for getting a bj when you drive next I would've thought that's slightly more distracting than smoking.

n boost
Imagine the thought of say 1000 people finishing work, in a hurry to get home and they can't have a fag while driving. Imagine the amount of road rage through rush hour traffic people speeding, taking red lights etc, just so they can get home quickly and spark a fag in peace. This itself would probably cause more accidents. The GOV'T hasn't a clue, and would love to know how they would prove someone had been smoking which had caused the accident. wallace9
I'm a smoker and I don't smoke in supra but I have in my other cars and I can't see that its dangerous in any way. I have ate while at the wheel too and although I probably shouldn't again I don't think its particurlary dangerous. Its going to end up as someone mentioned where even listening to the radio will be made illegal. Bolloks to them all!! Has anyone seen the film demolition man, which is set in the future and stupid things like swearing and eating salt are actually illegal. Great film but I can see the world going that way with all this PC nonsense. Sorry for the rabble but I'm really f**king drunk :)
