New Skyline GT-R news

A friend of mine has his name down for one of these in Japan.

By all accounts the performance is fantastic, but the potential for tuning is questionable and I think will be very difficult. For a start the turbos are built into the manifold so I can see turbo kits, assuming they're made, being very, very expensive.

Nissan also won't touch the car if it's been modified in anyway.

Looking forward to seeing how it goes, but I still think it's a butt ugly car. Hopefully Nismo can do something about that. :)

Now I've not seen or heard about that so you may be right, but why would they have to be very expensive? Surely you'd need a new manifold with any turbo kit anyway?

I have some friends in Japan.;)

I know a lot more but can't say anything, however there is some good info here: http://www.7tune.com/?p=106 and a whole subform of chat, rumours and speculation on http://www.gtr.co.uk

As it details in the article, the exhaust manifold and turbo exhaust housing are formed as one piece. Apparently this is for weight saving and response, but I've also heard that the Japanese government want to clamp down on the tuning scene. Things like this mean basic bolt on turbo kits are out I think. Also, it's no longer a case of just cracking the ECU anymore because everything is fully integrated.

Still, the likes of MINE'S, Top Secret etc are going to be very busy on the run up to the Tokyo Auto Salon. :) Not much time though, not expecting much for TAS but next year should be interesting:)

Interesting move. I wonder what the idea is behind that?

Anyone know what performance gain would be had by doing this?

Nothing new in that, the Vauxhall Calibra had a similar arrangement years ago. Less gasketed interfaces to blow. lighter, probably males the turbo package smaller, and will ceratinly make buying a new turbo very lucrative for Nissan ;)
