Pete
Unfortunately for some, the compromise is a bloody Scooby or something. No no no! I quite fancy one for a laugh. There was one at Donny kit show which they claimed to have bought for 500 notes as a donor. Looked tatty but I'm sure it would've been a great winter car. JohnA
The autoTT is geared very high indeed. At low speeds, it tries to stay in 2nd gear even as you accelerate, that is like trying to start in 3rd gear in a manual car! Then it tries to shift into 3rd gear as soon as possible, but remember that is good for over 120mph! Even when you floor it, it may not kickdown, and even if it does it may not drop down a gear. So it's a bit of pot luck what times you'll get in an impromptu in-gear acceleration test. Result: the small car with the manual box and the short gearing can beat you for a few seconds. But that's like throwing a kick at Tyson while he's asleep. It doesn't mean that you kicked his ass, when he wakes up and sees what you've done things may be different! colsoop
As other have said they are different machines with different aims in mind. The supra high speed long distance cruising with the odd hoon. "hot hatches" are A and B road blasters and as such are geared that way. My little saxo was great for just that but get any kind of speed on and it was no fun at all. (70mph at 4000 rpm ) Also the megane with the chequers on it is the cup version which is lighter with a couple of other additions.
