Chris and Alana
I've just been reading over the calibration procedure in the instructions and it tells me to 'Plug the calibration adapter into the diagnostic lead.' Now I have a Lead that plugs into the RL unit that comes off into some sort of 'plug' and it has a green LED along side it, is this the Diagnostic lead? If so, what is the calibration adaptor? and do I really need it to set the unit up? Thank's for any advice.
SimonB
Yep, that's the one. It has a serial port on which plugs into your laptop to change the settings. The callibration adaptor is a plastic plug that plugs into the serial port and puts the unit into calibration mode - you then drive in a circle so it can figure out which wheels are which. You can get away without using the calibration adaptor only if you plug a laptop in, jack the car up and spin each wheel in turn and then set them in the setup software. TBH you really want to plug a laptop in and change the default settings anyway as they are a bit harsh.
Chris and Alana
Thank's for the info, I now know what everything is I do have the calibration adaptor so setting it up shouldnt be a problem now. The only other thing is that I dont have a port that fits the RL Diagnostic lead (the 9pin thing) on the computer or laptop is there an adaptor of some sort? (I Saw Greg (Sheefa) was selling some sort of lead I've sent him a PM)
Chris and Alana
Would this do the trick http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=1&DOY=search&ModuleNo=29968&criteria= Or this one from e-bay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-TO-9-25-PIN-SERIAL-RS232-CABLE-ADAPTER-DB9-DB25_W0QQitemZ320162036539QQihZ011QQcategoryZ41995QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
T2 MSW
Yep the first one will do the job mate. its just a Serial to USB adapter you need, but you will need the drivers (they come with the maplins one). Dont know why laptops dont have them any more, they are needed for this sort of thing and IT engineers need them for switches, how much space can a small port take up! How did you get on with the fitting as im about to start mine shortly?
Chris and Alana
I havent fitted it yet Im going to do it this weekend, I just want to make sure I have everything I need so I dont hit a brick wall somewhere along the line Do you have an updated dat file already? Pete
Dont know why laptops dont have them any more, they are needed for this sort of thing and IT engineers need them for switches, how much space can a small port take up! It's a common request at work, hardly any come with serial ports now but some old software relies on an proper hardware port to work. I have an old Sony Vaio under the desk that only comes out for this reason alone. They come up cheap enough on eBay from time to time. Usually with bad batteries but with a power inverter it's fine for the car.

No not got a DAT file yet, not really looked into it yet! It's a common request at work, hardly any come with serial ports now but some old software relies on an proper hardware port to work. I know tell me about it, I have an old Tosh at work for switches but its a pain in the arse carrying two laptops about when on customers sites! Even better Ive just powered up the RLTC I have bought gone to plug in the USB to serial connector and its screwed so I need to buy a new one myself. Sheefa
Hi Chris, sorry mate I haven't got back to you - stupidly busy. Tha first one will indeed do me thinks. I made a mistake as the lead I have is for the Digi Adjuster pal with the LED at the end to confi wheel rpm. Let me know if you need that too though. Pudsey
Has any body else had problems with the USB to Serial Port connection. Mine doesn't want to play. Is there anything in the settings that can be changed to get the computer talking to the Race Logic Box. The error code I keep getting is as follows: - Access Violation at address 0049074C in module ‘Traction_MKII.exe’. Read of address 000000A0. I am in contact with Terminator, who hopefully will be able to help. Just thought I would ask the question. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
