Hi,

After a week of ironing out the niggles on my new supra i noticed a weep off the water pump so i'll be changing it on thurs.

Just ordered a blueprint pump but after reading a few threads im guessing its just as well to change the timing belt at the same time ?

Anything i need to know when doing this or is it just as per usual ?

Hi mate. I changed my pump a couple of weeks back. No major issue as long as you can get the crank bolt loose. I made a locking tool and used a v large breaker

It's worth changing the belt unless it's recently been done. Mine was done 10,000 miles ago so I didn't bother. I've just done a belt change on my 405 and the Supra was loads easier due to better access.

I'll post a few pics of the job when im done.

It's not tensioning :D

Nahh you can move it in and out with your fingers and as you rotate the engine you can see it losing alot of tension. Im talking about the actual tensioner (Piston) not the guide pulley by the way.

Plus the fact going on autodatas specs it shouldn't pretrude more than 8.8mm and mine was 10mm and also the seal was weaping on the piston itself.

It's alright saying these engines aren't interferance but you still need to get back from where you cambelt jumps off :D so i'd rather it be right...lol

A quick water pump change has turned into.

Water Pump

Thermostat

Timing Belt

Guide Pulley

Timing Belt Tensioner Piston

Aux Belt

One Lambda Senor (as it was finger tight and rattling like mad)

Full Coolant Change

And i treated it to 6 Litres of Motul 300V while i was at it.

Plus £60 on a meal to keep the missus happy after staying out all day working on the car instead of entertaining her :p

That's an excellent description of a fcuked tensioner mate:(

You might have spent some money, but at least you know it's sound now. Money well spent!!:)

Wooooooohoooooo all done.

New tensioner fitted this moring and all fired back together. Sweet as a nut, but you soon realise how fcuked the tensioner was when you compare it to a new one loads of tension now and it's sweet as a nut and bone dry with the new pump fitted.

Adam.
