Cadburys Purple
I have recently read that the 4Ltr V8 out of a Lexus GS can fit into the Supra quite easily. The mounts are in the same place and the gearbox just requires a connector plate. Does anyone have anymore information on how big or small a job this is because I know of one right now (including all ancilleries and loom) going very cheap at a local breakers! Or should I just stay away? Thanks;)

redsupraman82
hi cadburys, do you remember me from usc?? anyway did you get that exhaust in the end?? as for the engine thing ...have a crack at it...what could go wrong??
hoff
For about the same price though mate you could go NA-TT with jezz I think.
Cadburys Purple
Hey Red how are you doing? No, I never got the exhaust off Geneb but nevermind. Hope you enjoyed the show, did you take your car up the strip in the end? Adam (McLovin?!?!?) how cheap can you get an N/A-T done?
hoff
To be honest mate im not sure. The prices very depending on the turbo and all the extras involved like traction control etc. £3k gets you the TT engine dropped in including fmic etc with Jezz or £2k supplied. I think. I sent you the link on it a while ago. Thats way I think I'll go once I have the cash. Its also more reliable than NA-T.
Cadburys Purple
Yeah but if the V8 conversion is quite straight forward I could probably get the V8 bought and fitted for £500!!!

redsupraman82
No i didnt in the end. the weekend was ok a bit chavy but fun. i think the guys are right in what there saying, i been thinking of calling jezzy myself to have the engine swap done. it would actually work out around the same price for a decent N/A T kit and install plus the engine swap would (i think) be a lot less hassle in the long run But a V8 supra could be interesting??? especially a purple one!! Cadburys Purple
I don't think so..... How much work is there involved in the conversion Chris? Is it quite a big job because it would be just me and my mate fitting it and the engine is peanuts.
Chris Wilson
It'll be a big job, I have never done one, but if you don't have proper workshop facilities, or the patience and money to outsource stuff like exhaust and cooling piping bending and manufacture, wiring issues, propshaft issues, blah blah, I would forget it. With the deepest respect to Thor, who I rate and have a good relationship with, the Lexus V8 transplant has always struck me as a LOT of work for little end result, save the rarity of the conversion. A BIG Chevy V8 on injection, with a US auto box though, with stump pulling torque, now that'd be worth doing...

Yeah I enjoyed the show also, it was a bit chavy but I still had a good time! I definitely like the idea of going V8 rather than N/A-T and I'd mostly like to do it because it seems like quite an original thing to do.

Cadburys Purple
Well so far there's nothing swaying me towards this conversion, seemed like a good idea at the time because the article said that it would drop straight in and the gear box would mate up with an adaptor plate but from what you've said Chris it seems like more hassle than what its worth! Thanks for the input though guys, I'll keep thinking of things to bug you with!
Cadburys Purple
Well after spending most of today having a threeway conversation with cowboy bebob who has carried this coversion out himself and the mechanic whop will be carring the conversion out for me, this looks like its on the cards!! Will give full details on friday!!
