benstanley
Hello everyone!! Right here's my story..... I have wanted a Supra since i was tiny and whilst messing around the other day on insurance websites i discovered to my delight that i could now comfortably afford insurance on a single turbo Supra So here I am with 6k burning a hole in my pocket and a hunger for a Supra!! I currently own an mg zs which will be going on ebay within the next few days. I just wondered if you guys could give me the heads up on my future baby...... e.g things to look for, things i should check out when viewing, performance stats, possible and best mods etc!! O yeah and obviuosly if anyone is considering selling let me know Thanks to all in advance!! Ben.
RobSheffield
How old are you? Its highly likely you have inadvertently clicked on the MK3 supra, as there was no official MKiv single turbo. Mkiv single turbos are modified and need specialist services, and attract steep premiums!
Guest Chumpalot
this could be what he actually means....
RobSheffield
Im thinking not mr Chump, especially not with 6k
benstanley
just turned 21. It said 93 to 96 on the insurance i think take it thats the mark 3 then. Im new to this to be honest thats the reason i joined to find out some stuff. what kind of performance comes from the non-turbo then? RobSheffield
Which insurance site was that? 93-96 is indeed a mkiv, but single turbo was only standard on mk3 NA range from 2-6000 (rare to find at 2k and usually poorly)
Guest Chumpalot
That was going to be my next point Rob. Ben, if indeed you are referring to the MKIV, there's no way you'll find a single turbo conversion one for your budget. Sell your MG and by my TT Forum rules I'm afraid
benstanley
confused.com Im willing to spend the full 6k on a car to get a nice one to be honest. But im struggling to find insurance on a TT. What are the performance figures on a NA and what can they reach witht the right mods??
Guest Chumpalot
N/As don't really provide much scope for modifying and increasing the BHP I'm afraid. Certainly not as much as the TT anyway. It can be done but it's bleeding expensive. 0-60 in 5 seconds or thereabouts for the N/A? 220 odd BHP
benstanley
haha if only i could insure a TT. And my ZS money is paying off other bills im afraid!!
Guest Chumpalot
The N/As can more than hold their own. Less to go wrong too. Petrol consumption isn't that much better though to be honest, 2-3 mpg better than a TT.
benstanley
hmmm well thats put me off to be honest thought they were pushing more BHP. And i know i cant insure a TT at the moment so maybe it'll have to wait a bit!! thanks for the info tho guys!!
Guest Chumpalot
225 for the NA and 320 odd fo the TT.
Vicky
I started with an N/A which ive had for 2 years now, its not the quickest no but it can hold its own. I wanted to get a TT but i see alot of threads everyday from members who own them and there is a lot more to go wrong so dont forget running costs too. My car has high mileage and is 13 years old but i still trust it to start every morning
benstanley
wish i could insure a TT!! Will try with my dad on the policy later!! 225 is quite a bit less than i wanted to be honest!! Any alternatives that you guys could recommend??

Guest Chumpalot
but i could pick up and insure a cupra r or a gt4 for the same money with better performance and modding prospects!! I always fancied a Cupra R, that was before I looked at Supras though. If insurance is all that's holding you back from getting a TT then that's out of our hands I'm afraid. I think you'll be hard pushed to get as much car for your money imo.
benstanley
true!! maybe ill get an NA until i can afford the insurance. How much do you reckon for and engine conversion?? are there any links to projects?? will try with my parents on the policy see what that turns out for me!! Guest Chumpalot
You mean putting a TT engine into an NA? Jezz (member on here) does these for around the £3k mark I believe. Type the word conversion into the search box and you'll get loads of hits.
benstanley
no need just put my dad on the policy and its only an extra 20 a month to insure a TT!! So now im on the look out for a TT
