RedM
If so, how come they can hoon around corners in the p155ing rain at speeds a Supra would decide to dive for the hedge at? I'm not talking about bog-standard Beemers either.

JustGav
BMW's also have on the whole a slightly better weight distribution to the supras. BMW's are almost spot on 50/
tbourner
Probably because they're good well set up cars. I'm not saying the Supra isn't but most modern BMWs are probably designed with more safety in mind than speed.
Eve
Their stock traction control is better as well isn't it?
Havard
My wife's car is RWD and with all the gizmo's in it you cannot get the backend out at all. I always turn the DSC off when I get in it so I can have a little fun! Although they are ten a penny they are terrific to drive IMO and it's what made us think about getting an M3.... I recently went down a road in the BM and never felt a bump. Went down the same road in the Supe an hour later and all my fillings nearly came out... The Supe looks great but the BM is a quality machine! H.

No magic to them, one of similar weight to a MKIV should handle similarly.

So basically what you are saying is, that as long as its a well set-up (CW style for example) MKiv, we shouldn't have too much trouble?! It must be the BMW's N/A engine as opposed to the MKiv's turbo kick in that's the real difference. Smoother power delivery. Still hate them though
edge
Had a heavy 2002 525 and the DSC was second to none. Fantastic stabilty control. Even with it turned off it used to slide about nicely.

Chris Wilson
I think a stock MKIV (TT or N/A) is superb in the wet, given it's size and weight. I will always remember my auto TT on stock rims and tyres at a Porsche Owners Club track day, at Oulton, in the streaming rain. Did 3 sessions, then had a fag, and noticed loads of well dressed owners furtively looking through the window of the MKIV, then saying things along the line of "Feck, it's a bledin' auto, too....", then shuffling off home saying the weather was too bad for safe driving, they had a "meeting" and suchlike

I had a short stint on Brands in the slashing rain. A couple of Caterfield 7 types couldn't stay with me, they were all over the track and I held a Mitsi Evo 6 at bay for three laps until he carried more speed through onto the finishing straight and the red-mist decended which resulted in me binning it at Druids. Thats correct, there are a few 4wd's about and they have an "X" at the end, Im pretty sure they are all imports though.
