robin
Imports always command a higher premium. I think the fact that some parts may need importing in the event of an accident inflates the insurance premium. It may also be because imports are statistically more likely to be in an accident? I dont know. It does seem silly that a NA supra costs more then a UK twin turbo to insure.

QUOTE] Thats rediculous! As all parts will have to come from the manufacturer (in Japan), it's not like UK TT parts are made over here! As rediculous as it is though, it's probly a true excuse knowing insurance companies!
sparkyspar
jesus mines n/a im 37 clear licence cost me £900.00 sky insurance eh
Suprash
jesus mines n/a im 37 clear licence cost me £900.00 sky insurance eh Im thinking the same, 30, max NCB, on a TT £1300........
Suprash
quoted £465 for a na 95 j-spec and £421 for the one i just got which is a 95 uk tt And I reckon the N/A should have been higher then that, they usually command near on double of a UK TT.......so £40/50 extra that seems low.....? And how the hell did you get away with that premuim, Im 30, max NCB and I pay £1300, surely location cant make that much of a difference, but I also know my location isnt considered bad by insurance companies, just average......? Suprash
same here mate, i have n/a and its actually cheaper for me to insure it once its been converted to TT mental I would be carefull they havent priced the TT as a UK version, if so then converting your Jspec N/A to a TT, will only make it a Jspec TT not a UK TT and the Jspec N/A and Jpec TT are both priced exactly the same. They dont care what engine it has if is an import, it just gets banded under the higher import rate. My gf was paying the same insurance for her N/A as I was on my TT..... Yeh mate thanks, i have checked and all is relevant and above board. I was insured with elephant and the new quote i have is with greenlight. It is quoted as n/a with a TT engine, difference in hp approx to 230 to 320 and its £100 cheaper. of course on the new quote i have an extra year NCB and am a year older but is still thought it was good to move up 90bhp (in wording terms) and still pay over £100 less
Whitesupraboy2
next week its going in the shed in the back garden and aint coming out till i see round 450 bhp 450BHP, just outside the cheap modification bracket, BPU with cams and standalone ECU will get you to 410BHP after its been mapped. To get too 450BHP your going to need either go the single route £££ on cost and insurance or Hybrids. Welcome by the way.
lockys96
dont know really, its all hit and miss. to change to my new mr2 500hp, was £35 just to ammend the policy
edd_t
what I dont get is that i've just moved house (same area and post code) but now my Supe is tucked up nicely in a locked garage instead of being in a residential carpark open to the public. and i dont get a reduction in my policy!!! snake
The other thing to consider is how much excess is on a policy, i would imagine if you put a crazy excess on it the premium would be a hell of a lot lower. But you would have to be brave to do it. d00gzy
I woke up today wondering how my insurance would be with a UKTT and it was £500 cheaper (AND FULLY COMP) than my one off payment of £1700 (Third Party FF) for my jap auto 1994! So im saving up my pennies for next year and goin for a UK TT with low mileage! crazy eh!
