Shuttleworth Collection

Recommended Posts

At Chrissy I bought dad a day at a flying show and he chose to have a look at the Shuttleworth Collection near Bedford.

Went yesterday and although I'm not really into old planes, it was a great day out.

You have to admire the guts of someone who will go up in a 30 HP plane made of wood and cotton !

For you buffs, the details are:

1908 Avro 504K Bi-plane

1911 Avro Tri-plane

1941 Hurricane

1944 Spitfire

The Spitfire was flown by a Caroline Grace, who learned to fly after her husband was killed (in a car) so she could carry on displaying it as he did - respect !

The Shuttleworth Collection is renowned for the number of older biplanes and first world war planes it keeps flying.

here is link to the webpage for the Grace spitfire.

was originally single seater, but later converted to two-seat Spitfire

hard to believe it is 20 years in 2008 since Nick Grace got killed.

great that you and your dad had good time at the Collection :)

Nice pics.

Caroline Grace is a absolute legend. I have nothing but respect for that woman.

The whole ethos of the Spitfire during WWII is perfectly illustrated by her facing overwhelming odds and succeeding.

One of the few people in this world i would like to meet.

Pleased with the pics, not brill, but I'm not a photographer... but they were the best of many !

Re caroline, puts my little life to shame... :(
