Steviekid
My DVD writer knackered up recently so I bought this one as a replacement. The two I had in the computer were IDE ones. Initially when I started the computer up with the new SATA one, and one IDE one in it wouldn't even go to Windows. I disconnected the IDE one and the computer starts up but after a few seconds on the desktop screen, it goes blue and the computer restarts. I've got an Asus Striker Extreme MB and have tried the drive in several of the SATA plugs but there's no difference. My SATA HD's work fine. Anyone had anything like this happen? wHIZz
Not sure about this but in the interests of trying to help.... Have you gone in to the BIOS and made sure the SATA controller is enabled? - since you've only been using IDE in the past this might be worth checking........ unless your HD is SATA in which case ignore that. I would probably start with a BIOS upgrade for the motherboard - and also check the jumper settings on the devices. HTH wHIZz
ivan
"My SATA HD's work fine." would seem to indicate that SATA is enabled OK though.
Steviekid
Yeah, the SATA connections are definately turned on. I'll need to work out how to do a bios update. The drive doesn't have any jumpers. Cheers for the reply though!
