peter richards
my mk111 did the same thing like you say drove well but on a short run it didnt throw out but after a long run or spirited driving it did , mr T checked it out compressions were all ok my car had 97k on it when it was checked , and was told that the head gasket wouldnt last much longer as they normally let go around 100k. and on 98.5k it went , so they were right on that point
Ian C
I read the title of this and wanted to post "It's your headgasket!" without even reading the actual question, as a sort of in-joke. Wasn't so funny now I have to say "it's your headgasket" and mean it -Ian
edge
Bad news. Go on the MK3 owners site (unsure of web address) and they will probably be able to help you out a bit more as far as spares, repairs etc.
stupra
I agree with what the guy's have said before, it sound's like your head gasket has blown, or is on the way out. I've had two mkiii turbo's, the head gasket blew at around 90,000 on the first one I had, and that car did just as your's is doing. I made sure the next one I bought had already had the work done, as it's not a cheap fix.

bondango
As posted get over too mkiiisupra.net And yes theres a 90% it is a BHG. Only a completely gone headgaket will allow a water/oil contamination, The 7mgte can also pressure leak into the water channels with a slightly weeping headgakst, it may be only slight at high boost, but enough to pressurise the cooling system. the 3 basic tests are :- 1. NEW rad cap - usually the culprit 2. Coolant system pressure test 3. Coolant sniff test leave the car to cool, and check the level in the expansion tank is not above the full mark - though this usually rectifies itself after a few drives if it has been overfilled.
