Daston
Hey guys My boss has a problem in Excel and our IT department are crap. All our machines are the same and no one else is having the problem. Basicly he has just opened a new worksheet and tried to insert a new sheet into that workbook and it has come up with "not enough memory". He seems to get this on all of the spreadsheets. Any ideas? jaw
could mean not enough virtual memory? quick way to check could be doing ctrl alt delete, and getting up the task manager, looking at the processes tab, and checking that there are no programs taking up silly amounts of memory by virus or by malfunctioning.. The number of worksheets possible is only limited by 'available memory'. Is the worksheet using any macro's?
Daston
no its a blank woorkbook with 2 sheets and no other programs are running. We tried upping the virtual memory but that did nothing.

Guest Chumpalot
I shouldn't imagine opening up a blank worksheet in Excel uses up that much memory...
JohnA
Doesn't sound like a memory issue. Sometimes you get this when Windoze get their nickers in a twist. If rebooting the machine doesn't fix it then reinstalling might. I remember having this issue once on a dodgy installation.
Shovels
I used to come across a fault with Word, which was similiar. When Word opens it loads template.dat This file can get corupted and cause Word to fail to load. It's a simpe case of deleting the file, Word will re-create the file when it next opens. There may be a similar file with Excel that is corrupted. Worth a shot, it's a 20 second fix.
BASHTHEBISHOP
Use the repair function from add/remove programs in the control panel... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263958
