redline Rooster
Hi, I was thinking of changing the standard factory fit CD/Radio with my other head unit from my old car - but looking at the way the factory fit unit is installed, it seems you have to take of the dashboard face panel to get to it. It looks like the dials and buttons will stay in place - so basically i was wondering if anyones done it and how easy it is to do!??! I'm gonna have my head unit on the bottom deck and my custom G meter on the top deck - should make a nice touch gadget wise!! anyway if anyones knows anything and has any hints an tips that would be cool! cheers Redline rooster
THOR Racing
Read my info at http://www.trlperformance.com/dash.html I haven't updated it for a while but is illustrates that it really is quite easy to remove the dash. Remember to remove any band expander/shifter unit fitted (if this is a Japanese radio converted to UK frequencies) before fitting the new radio. Barry
I had to take all the dash and head unit harness out a couple of weeks ago to plug in some RCA leads, its not as hard as it looks. You just unscrew all the screws you can see, then the dash pops out in 3 sections, then you have to take out the gear lever surround. Dont just pull the dash straight out though, as there are lots of connectors pluged in, be very carefull.

as5606
Don't forget that if you have an airbag to switch the ignition off when you remove the dash, otherwise the airbag light stays on until you reset it with some jiggery-pokerry.
redline Rooster
Hi, OK i'll make sure i do that, basically then its totally safe so long as there are no keys in the ignition? I wouldn't have had any in there anyway whilst removing that dash, but still very useful to know! What happens if the dash is off and then you turn the ignition on, say to test the new head unit before re assembly?? does it do it then? if so what does it mean, does it mean the air bags at fault or is it just some bizaar wiring issue!! cheers for the help! Guest Martin F
If you turn the ignition on with the top part of the dash disconnected at all you will trip the airbag light. I have a feeling that whilst it's lit if you had an accident then your airbags would probably not deploy. If you want to test the head unit just plug back in the top part of the dash.
