robb_mead
What do people think of 3rd Party Insurance on a TT jap spec Supra? As that is all insurance companies are offering to insure me on one. Or full Comp is £4,000K which is a much. Would you insure a TT supra 3rd party only? GeordieSteve
Not a hope in HELL!!! Fully comp only on a motor like that
robb_mead
Yeah thats what I thought. Cant believe I cant get insured with minor mods, like air filter, exhaust and bodykit etc... on a TT Supra. The only quote I got was £4,000 full comp. dont believe it. looks like I am going to have to wait until I am 25 yrs old then.
terribleturner
At the end of the day if that's all you can afford then do it. Just drive sensibly and don't take risks (Well, not too many). Hopefully next year after driving a high performance car your insurance will be alot better. Norwich union quoted me £4000, didn't quote me hap[py but gave me a laugh. Guess you've tried Adrian Flux, A-plan and Elephant?
GeordieSteve
How old are you? Have you thought about trade insurance?
robb_mead
Yeah well £4000 is a bit much really to be honest. cant afford that. 3rd party only is £1100. work that one out. thats because it dont cover you for nothing. I have tried everywhere. Adrian Flux is the 4 grand one, and all the others wont even insure me. The 3rd party one is with a company I have never heard off. want a supra TT bad but f**kin insurance. toyotasuprauk
I would never even dream of paying £4000 for insurance:eek: 22 years old isn't too bad and with 4 years NCB I'm surprised its that expensive, it must be largely down to your postcode. Have you tried it with a low risk postcode out of interest?
GeordieSteve
Or garage it. your local coucil should have some garages to rent. Usually only about £2 a week
terribleturner
Can i ask whta mods you declared?
robb_mead
I declared the following Tinted Windows Non standard alloys Full Bodykit kit Non standard air filter Non standard Exhaust Non standard Radiator Interior Retrim, CAT1 Alarm I think they are reasonable mods, not too much and not too little. The insurances companies said it is because of the mods but I dont think they are that bad,

GeordieSteve
P.s. I made a mistake... the £1200 for my insurace wasn't stock... it was with bodykit and 18's. Keep ringing Elephant. Everytime I rang back it got cheaper!
lust2luv
Doesn't make sense that the high crime rate would cause it to be so high, since Third Party obviously covers fire and theft. I'm guessing it's the mods - try an online quote without declaring mods and see what that comes out as (Elephant for instance).
michael
My useful insurance telephone number link Tinted Windows - they aren't keen, I struggled to find companies who would cover me. Non standard alloys - shouldn't be an issue but expect them to offer to replacement with the more expensive standard items. Full Bodykit kit - most insurers will be scared but the specialists should be OK Non standard air filter - should be fine. Non standard Exhaust - "pattern part, cheaper than a standard system" Non standard Radiator - how non-standard? If it's not listed on their drop down box database then they will automatically refuse cover, might be worth going for the "replacement pattern part" approach on it? Interior Retrim - Not something I've ever had to declare but some standard cars come with leather so tell them the seats were grotty and needed new leather, they note this on your policy and it should be covered. Sometimes you just need to know how to word things, remain honest and declare the lot but approach it from their point of view and try to fit your mods into their predefined boxes. Do an online quote with a mod friendly insurer to see the options available, if something you want isn't listed it will cause you issues when the phone monkey tries to find something close and ends up listing a set of tyre valves as a T88 Just keep rining around all the companies you can, someone will be sympathetic to your situation. JohnK
want a supra TT bad but f**kin insurance Get a quote for a UK spec car, when I got mine it was less than half the price of insuring a J-spec. Problem there is you will usually pay more for a UK spec and have less choice of cars, but if you plan to keep it a few years the reduced insurance will cancel out the higher purchase cost. robb_mead
Insurance. I tried insurance with elephant a few weeks back on a supra TT and they wouldnt insure me with some mods. Tried everywhere and no one would insure me Fully Comp except 1 company which was Adrian Flux and they wanted £4K. which is stupid money. I just tried elephant again for a laugh and put in the same mods as I did before online BUT added the misses on to the insurance as well. Well guess what they are quoting me for £1450 with mods, which are full bodykit, non standard exhaust, non standard air filter non standard alloys Interior changes, How sick is that. looks like I will be getting a supra after all. but does seem too good to be true though. terribleturner
Good job. Bet you feel better now:p Double check with them thou that it's on an import. They messed me around a bit, quoteing me for a uk car when i asked for import.
absz
have u tried tesco insurance as i was paying £1200 with 4 years ncb and all mods listed to the value of £5000 when i was
robb_mead
Tesco wont insure me because I am not 25. I am only 22. Elephant I clicked on the Twin turbo import from the drop down list, so it better be right. I will ring them to get a better quote. cheers
GeordieSteve
Didn't think Elephant quoted online. You have to ring up. If you don't like the quote... ring back and speak to someone else. Always worked for me. When I had my Calibra I phoned Direct Line to be told under no circumstances would Direct Line insure me... so I rang back and got covered for a grand
robb_mead
Well that quoted me online, which is great. I also rung up and asked and they said exactly as the online quote said. So I am feeling alot better now, know that I should be able to get insurance for when I get the Supra TT sometime in the New Year.
